Drive-by knifings in London

I know we joked about drive-by bayonetting in the past. However, it seems like now it is going to become a reality.

A major police hunt is under way for a knife attacker who has killed one person and left four others critically injured in a stabbing spree in north London today.

The spate of drive-by attacks began when the attacker pulled up outside the busy commuter train station in Edmonton at 8.20am. A man aged 29 was knifed.

The Columbine murderers carried out most of their killings with cut-down hunting shotguns (a 12-gauge pump and a 2-shot double-barrel 12-gauge, as I recall). They also used a 9mm handgun and a 9mm carbine, neither of which was considered an "assault weapon" under the AWB. I think the handgun was a DC-9 (piece of junk, BTW, but not an "AW" since it had no barrel shroud) and the carbine was an ordinary Hi Point 9mm with a politically-correct 10-round magazine.

FWIW, a 9mm carbine is probably the least powerful centerfire long gun on the market...

"Families of stabbing victims joined the Victims of Crime Trust (VOCT) last week to launch the Knives Destroy Lives campaign. The group, which includes the parents of murdered schoolboy Luke Walmsley, are calling on the Government to introduce a five-year minimum jail term for carrying a blade longer than three inches.

They also want to see a six-month minimum jail term for carrying shorter blades, or three months for juveniles".

I can understand the concern and desire to find solutions to the problem, but to me this is the bass-ackwards way of going about it.

How about harsher penalties for using a knife during the comission of a crime?

Doesn't Britain have gun control laws? It would figure that people would eventually find some other means to bring about mayhem and bloodshed.
