Sheriff's deputies learn anti-terror tips in Israel

Palm Beach County Sheriff Ed Bieluch and eight of his employees returned this week from a training trip to Israel with ideas for improving security, thwarting terrorists and responding to terrorism.

The eight-day trip, partially paid for by the American Jewish Committee, included lessons in counter-terrorism from the Israeli National Police and the Israeli Defense Force.

"We train for things that may occur," said Sheriff's Sgt. Ray Ruby, a member of the Emergency Response Team. "They live it every day."

The group included Boca Raton Police Capt. Shawn Fagan and William Gralnick, director of the American Jewish Committee's Palm Beach County chapter.
