Four officers, 11 settlers injured as illegal W. Bank outpost razed
By Nadav Shragai, Yuval Yoaz and Akiva Eldar, Haaretz Correspondents

Four police officers and 11 protestors were lightly injures on Wednesday in clashes at an illegal West Bank outpost as Civil Administration inspectors, police and soldiers reached the site to demolish building foundations laid by settlers planning further construction.

Some 150 right-wing activists were waiting at Neveh Daniel North outpost as the security forces arrived. Five people were arrested after paint was thrown at a security forces bulldozer.

...But the main struggle over outposts expected in the near future one that is likely to take place at the Amona outpost, where the Yesha Council of Settlements and Binyamin Regional Council offices are planning to relocate to buildings slated for demolition.

...The Yesha Council regards Amona as a test case ahead of the evacuation of further outposts. The chairman of the Amona struggle headquarters, Avihai Baharon, said that the struggle would be "very resolved, and short of murder, we will take this struggle as far as possible." Regarding the disengagement from the Gaza Strip, he said: "What happened once won't happen again, because if it happens again, it will happen for the third and fourth times. When a man fights for his values, he also undertakes desperate actions."

The article also mentioned statements by a settler leader urging the public to travel to the site in thousands and to block roads to prevent the IDF reaching the site. The same leader urged the settlers to travel through Palestinian villages to arrive at the site, saying, "We are ready to come here even if we are beaten, even if we are thrown into jail, we are willing to pay the price."

5. Mofaz delays evacuation of Amona outpost by 14 days
(snip)

"Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz on Thursday decided to postpone the evacuation of the settlement outpost of Amona, near Ofra, for another two weeks.

Mofaz said he made the decision due to a petition to the High Court of Justice filed by Amona residents, which the court has agreed to hear next Wednesday, and the Palestinian Authority elections, which are scheduled for January 25.

At the same time, however, he ordered the dismantling of three Nablus-area outposts - the Aroussi Farm near Bracha, the Skelly Farm near Elon Moreh and Hill 725 near Yitzhar - to proceed. A few dozen settlers live in these three outposts, and the evacuations will probably take place next week.

Demolition orders against these outposts were issued some time ago, but until Thursday, Mofaz had never given the order to implement them. The decision to do so now is apparently due partly to American pressure and partly to the desire of Mofaz's party, Kadima, to paint itself as tough on enforcing the law in the territories. On Thursday, the army demolished four foundations for prefab houses that had been built without a permit in the settlement of Rahelim.

According to Mofaz's associates, the minister is particularly anxious to move against the three Nablus-area outposts, because many Palestinian olive trees in their vicinity have been vandalized, and the government has decided to crack down on the vandals."
