Palestinians in Gaza Fear War Between Fatah and Hamas After Vote
Edited on Fri Jan-13-06 01:40 PM by pelsar
But the mood was subdued amid talk of war between the factions, and Palestinian security forces said they were girding for violence, fearing that the legislative elections scheduled for Jan. 25 could lead to fighting.

"If civil war starts, it will last a long time and cost thousands of lives," said Sameeh Nasser, a police officer riding through Gaza City's chaotic streets in a light-blue Peugeot patrol car.

..... and the violent culture of its militias and their suicide bombers. Gaza threatens to turn on itself now that Israel has withdrawn.

....

Some people even expressed open nostalgia for the days before the 1993 Oslo accords, when Israel still occupied the territory and Palestinians were freer to travel across the country.

Now why would ANYONE in the right mind want that chaos expanded into the west bank?....

i've been reading so much about how the gaza pullout was "a trick" not enough, a "fast one"..etc... and frankly i couldnt figure it out. Israel pulled out a continous land mass, showed its "messianic right' who was in charge, and gave the palestenains a chance to rule themselves finally with no israeli interference (that was the goal until that volly of 30 kassams came flying over the border....)

so whats bad?......well i finally figured it out:

the reality (i know thats a hard hard word here) is that there is chaos in gaza today, many of the Intl/UN personal whos were so worried about the "human rights of the palestenians" have left, many out of simply fear, many because there is no one to "complan to" who will listen, gun battles in the streets, a PA, has declared itself impotent on guarding the borders and within internal disputes, despite a huge numbers of armed men:

the fact is...is that Gaza self rule, today is a massive failure. To admit that, means you have a dilema, was the occupation better for the avg palestenain?...some palestenians say yes.

However if the occupation was so horribly evil, with such unspeakable deeds (as many have written here), then it would be impossible to admit that there is actually worse-palestenain self-rule.

This does not mean that the palestenians cannot rule themselves, the mere proof of gaza today does show that they have some "kinks' to work out. Furthermore, history is full of societies that have failed, just wanting independence does not mean your "good at it" (and before the "racist card is pulled out"..there are professions that study cultures, both succesful and failed....)

so why was gaza a "trick"....because it pulled the rug out of those who claim that there is no worse evil than the israeli occupation.....turns out there is: Gaza, Jan 2006.

so whats best for the palestenians? ...Whats best is the status quo in the westbank until gaza gets itself together...the idea of that kind of chaos in the westbank for those who wish additional israeli withdrawls shows not "concern for the avg palestenian"..on the contrary it shows a willingness to use the palestenains for the ideal of israel withdrawl...It shows a callusness toward the palestenians.

The PAs position in the westbank is no better than that of Gaza, there is no reason to expect anything different in terms of immediate self rule
that translates to gun battles in jenin, hebron, Bethlahem, kassams on israeli population centers, and the UN/intls running off to west jerusalem....and of course the response of the world (and the DU) shall be:

silence, or protests if israeli dares respond to the kassams in any kind of realistic way (suggestions any one?),

however the fact is israel will have to respond, mortors/kassams on its population centers, which would further the chaos in the westbank self rule......but then thats not the point is it.....

1. This may be the "War Lord" culture
created by the colonial powers in the Post WW1 political cartography. That, at least, is Engdahl's theory (A Century Of War: Anglo-American Oil Politics and the New World Order by F. William Engdahl)

"There Coastie goes with his Engdahl rant - y'know, "Blame it on the French and Brits, when Coastie should know - it was all, 100%, the fault of the Zionists."
See, I said it for you, you don;t have to post it.

3. self delusion?
guess you dont read the few reports coming out of gaza......try reading what the palestenains have to say about it...you know the people who actually live there, or is that not relevant?

oh yea..those missles flying in to israel...that also defines success?...is this one of those "we expect less out of the "arabs" kind of things?

4. updating the Gaza "trick"
Edited on Sat Jan-14-06 03:00 AM by pelsar
I just though i would list a few more of what those "tricky" israelis pulled off in gaza:

israel left gaza because it was it in self interest (and not for the palestenians)-so when do nations do things NOT in their interest?

it was PR stunt - er, so giving the palestenains self rule, shouldnt have happened

it was a "look over there"..hmm people cant read multiple articles in the paper on the westbank and gaza?

it wasnt negotiated..giving them everything they wanted: access to egypt control over their society.....what didnt they get?

my favorite however is that the occupation still exists because israel gives them electricty.....but this is very confusing to me, because, since as i understand it, then, israel should stop giving them the electricity, but then thats been declared a war crime....so do the palestenians want israeli occupation electricity or not?

of course they can always connect to th egyptian grid......(but that would mean they're being occupied by the egyptians...)

5. They can build their own electrical plant or hook up to Egypt's grid
Then if there is a power failure, oh well.
