Straw urges Hamas to recognize Israel

"You can't have one foot in politics and another in terror," US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said in response to the apparent Hamas electoral victory on Thursday afternoon.

The elections, according to Rice, were "peaceful and free of violence, and by all accounts fair. The Palestinian people have voted for change," she said, but added in what may have been a veiled warning to Hamas, "we believe their aspirations for peace remain unchanged.

British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw urged Hamas to renounce violence and recognize Israel.

"Hamas has to understand that with democracy goes renunciation of violence," Straw said. "It is up to Hamas to choose. We will have to wait and see, the international community will want Hamas to make a proper rejection of violence and to acknowledge that Israel exists," Straw said.

You can't tell the kids not to fight after Mom and Pop have been swinging at it with frying pans...

3. How about Israel recognizing the legitimacy of Palestinians?
I am not even referring to a political party... or even some undefined "State".

I am talking about recognizing the Palestinians have human rights that must be respected. After 60 plus years i think the time is now.

I am also not talking about words. I am talking about action on the ground, where it all makes the difference. Because if Israel were to start at the very basic level, then they would stop the demolishing homes of Palestinians.
