Palestinians want Hamas reform - poll
Palestinians want Hamas reform - poll

Monday 30 January 2006, 11:32 Makka Time, 8:32 GMT

Nearly three-quarters of Palestinians want the newly elected Hamas movement to drop its call for the destruction of Israel.

This came in an opinion poll released by the Ram Allah-based Near East Consulting Institute on Monday.

The survey also found that 84% of those surveyed in the West Bank and Gaza Strip want a peace agreement with Israel while 86% want Mahmoud Abbas, the moderate Palestinian Authority president, to remain in his post.

The Islamist movement Hamas, which has been behind most attacks against Israel during a five-year uprising, has come under growing pressure to drop its charter's call for the destruction of Israel in the wake of its landslide victory last week over the secular Fatah party.

1. Fascinating organization you quoted there....
so...since i had never heard of them , i googled them...and only one entry.

An election-eve poll by the Ramallah-based Near East Consulting institute, however, forecast Fatah would win only 59 out of the 132 seats, five more than Hamas, with the rest split between minor parties and independents.

Their ability to correctly access the mood of the people leaves alot to be desired.

:);-)

2. Uh, every man and his dog predicted the same thing...
So as an attempt to attack the credibility of any poll that says something positive about the Palestinian people and their mood, that attempt failed abysmally.

Just curious, but why do you find it so hard to believe that the majority of Palestinians do want Hamas to drop it from their Charter?

Violet...
