CNN Breaking: Ariel Sharon's health has seriously deteriorated
I posted this in LBN, but also wanted to share it here, since it's that important and I knew you all would want to know...

1. Wow- definitely sounds grave..
It's also on the front page of Google News - and is pretty much the lead story all over the AP.

2. This absolutely sounds very bad. And I dread the repercussions, if he
should die. I first caught this on CNN, breaking news, but have since posted links to the news stories that I could find, as have others, which is the reason I posted the LBN thread here, as well. But it doesn't look good.:-(

4. You're more than welcome. I haven't visited this forum for awhile, but I
used to be a regular here, since I have long considered this to be the most important conflict in the world, and one that desperately needs solving, one of the reasons I have President Carter as my avatar.:-)

And thanks! That's my little dog! He's sleeping behind me in my chair, as I type this...:D

9. Thank you, my friend!
It's nice to be back here, despite the unfortunate circumstances. This forum was my home on DU, for a very long time, and I still think that this is the most important crisis in our world, one that has to be solved for the future peace and stability of this volatile region. Unfortunately, Bush* hasn't been "a partner for peace," regarding this, to use his phrase. All U.S. efforts to effect an agreement between the two sides ended when President Clinton left office, and it doesn't look as if this will ever change, under the current administration. Bush* has his own agenda for the Middle East, and has created a crisis here, rather than helping to solve one...

8. There is some good news from the Palestine/Israel.
The AFSC has nominated a Israeli and a Palestinian for the Nobel peace prize.

In regards to Sharon, i don't think anyone thinks he is going to make it very long, and certainly will never again have any political power. No one lives forever. Olmert seems to be implementing the same policies, however. Much to many folks dismay (including Jimmy Carter's).

11. It does look as if Olmert is continuing Sharon's policies.
But they haven't always agreed and I wonder if he'll strike out on his own, either if Sharon dies or he wins next month. It looks as he's the favorite, but it's possible that people are still trying to hang on to Sharon...

Thanks for the good news! We sure can use some of that, especially now...

And anything that dismays Jimmy Carter, dismays me, after his incredible work in advancing peace, not just here, but throughout the world...

And you shall love the Lord your G-d with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.
And these words that I command you today shall be in your heart.

6. I saw it on the news tonight...
It's not a surprise, and not wanting to see anyone suffer needlessly (which I'm sure on some deep level he is, and his family most definately is), I hope he's allowed to slip away quietly. The thing on the news used that phrase about his health seriously deteriorating, but the fact is that the serious deterioration happened when he had the massive stroke, and anything now is his body giving up in the normal way bodies do when they're shutting down...

The coma and the conspiracy theory

By Bradley Burston

Monday, 13 February (43 days to election day)

Forget monitoring vital signs. Monitor talkbacks.

The moment that Ariel Sharon takes a turn for the worse, the messages flood in. Thankfully, the great majority are wishes that he might not suffer, or prayers for a miracle recovery.

It is a measure of the unbearable meanness of the Internet, however, that the first to arrive are almost always those who wish him ill, wish him hell, or alternatively, those who voice the hope that he will live on to suffer through endless rounds of new surgeries and unimaginable cutting-edge bio-tech tortures.

<snip>

Within minutes of Ariel Sharon having been rushed to an operating theater for emergency abdominal surgery on a Sabbath morning, the debate was not should he die in pain or live in agony, but rather When Olmert Will Let Him Die for Maximal Electoral Advantage.

This group is clearly one of a number of what may be called Web Anthills, in which the members of a like-thinking e-clan instantaneously share the same take on a given issue.

In a sense, this is no conspiracy theory. Why not? Because, as far as the writers are concerned, (A.) It's no conspiracy, it's only Kadima, and (B.) It's no theory, because we all know it to be true.

12. Update: 1 hr ago: Sharon listed as stable after intestinal surgery
By Greg Myre The New York Times

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 2006

JERUSALEM Prime Minister Ariel Sharon of Israel was in stable condition Sunday after undergoing emergency surgery on his large intestine, although he remained in a coma, the Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital said.

Sharon, 77, has been in the coma since suffering a major stroke Jan. 4, and hopes for a recovery were fading even before the latest complication.

Doctors observed that Sharon's abdomen was swollen, and after conducting a CT scan, he was taken into surgery Saturday morning, Dr. Shlomo Mor-Yosef, the director of the hospital, said at a news conference. Surgeons found damage to part of his large intestine and removed about 20 inches, or about 50 centimeters, Mor-Yosef said.

Hospital officials initially said Sharon's life was in danger. But after the four-hour operation, Mor-Yosef said, "The situation is serious, it is stable, it is critical, but there is no immediate danger to the life of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon."

15. Sharon photo sells on eBay for $18,000
Typical of the shoddy style of JPost that they have a headline that makes it sound like someone was idiotic enough to buy this. There's zero bids on it...

Sharon photo sells on eBay for $18,000
By JPOST.COM STAFF

Talkbacks for this article: 12

A Jerusalem resident has claimed to have photographed bedridden Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, and was selling the photograph for $18,000 dollars on eBay.

The man claimed that last Friday, while he was working as a Jerusalem flower shop delivery person, he was asked to bring the flowers to Sharon's room at Hadassah Ein Karem Hospital.

The prime minister was lying in a medically induced coma in the neurosurgery department on the seventh floor there, but was moved on Saturday to the general intensive care unit following an operation due to complications in his digestive tract.

The man says that he snapped the photo with his cellular phone.

16. I did hear about this! Talk about being in terrible taste! Yikes!
And I'm glad to hear that the denizens of e-Bay have the compassion not to take this opportunist up on this!
