Examination reveals failures in probe of Palestinian girl's death in 2004
<snip>

"A military police internal investigation has revealed major failures in the probe of a Palestinian girl's killing in October 2004, resulting in the reprimand of one officer and the censure of another.

Twelve-year-old Iman Al Hams was killed in Rafah by Givati infantry brigade soldiers. A Givati commander, "Captain R," stood trial for the death, but was acquitted of all charges. His rank was recently raised to major.

Military Police Commander Brigadier General Roni Benny recently appointed two reserves officers to examine the military police's conduct during the investigation. The two determined that investigators acted unprofessionally and with negligence.

The reserves officers criticized the decision not to appoint a special investigation team, led by higher-ranking and more experienced officials, to look into the incident. They said the investigation did not appropriately document the incident, as communications radio recordings of the incident were faulty, and therefore so was its reconstruction."

2. While in the US the GOP will pass a retroactive law to make domestic
spying legal.

Cheney case is closed because all hunters drink and he said he was not impaired.

CIA agent is outed and President told VP to have fun declassifying information.

And the Washington Post sees the Jefferson problem in Louisiana as the killing the Democratic Party corruption in government means GOP argument.

Are you trying to downplay the importance of the little girl's death and its investigation? What's going on in the U.S. is important, yes; but what has happened here with this little girl is just as important, even more so to her parents and family.

Regards,

4. every death, every injustice, every good deed is important - here we
have the Jewish military police saying that they were too quick to conclude the young girls death was a casualty of war when 12 year-old Iman Al Hams was killed in Rafah by Givati infantry brigade soldiers, and that the Givati commander at trial was excused of responsibility for his troops actions based on their findings in error - saying the Jewish Army should hold themselves to a higher standard than that used by the Army's military police investigators - saying they acted unprofessionally and with negligence.

Israeli ethics/law seems at a higher level than US law/ethics - at least it seems so in my opinion.

The importance of the little girls death to the parents can not be downplayed because it is obviously extremely important - but I do not understand why this case confirms anything about the Israeli state that is bad.

It is bad that she died, it is bad that the Army covered up that she died and that even under the rules of war her death should not be excused.

It is good that the Israeli military police are willing to put their careers on the line to say fellow officers did not follow any save the state need in the death or in the cover-up - and that the Army Captain was indeed responsible - although he can not be tried twice for the same crime. The military police internal investigation revealed major failures in the probe of a Palestinian girl's killing in October 2004, resulting in the reprimand of one officer and the censure of another. Military reserves officers that were doing the military police review of the case criticized the decision not to appoint a special investigation team, led by higher-ranking and more experienced officials, to look into the incident. They said the investigation did not appropriately document the incident, as communications radio recordings of the incident were faulty, and therefore so was its reconstruction.

So we have Brigadier General Benny issuing a reprimand the military police officer who was in charge of the investigation, and censuring the head of the investigation team.

Not much to assuage the grief of the parents - but it seems like more than persons a similar situation would have gotten from the US.

To simply say the "Zionist occupation continues" is to state a truth - and to miss my point. Or is your point that a two state solution with one state a majority jewish state is a bad thing and that the girls death proves that? - in which I missed your point and apologize for not understanding your point. If that is your point I disagree with your point, but I admit I did not catch that that was your point when I read the posting.

5. Actually, he can be tried twice (sort of)
Israeli law allows the prosecution to appeal an acquital (and they have in this case, though it will probably be some time before it's heard).
