Dalai Lama: Hamas must be more 'realistic' and reject violence

By Lior Kodner, Haaretz Correspondent

The Dalai Lama, who arrived in Israel for his fourth visit Wednesday, said it was "to early to say" whether Israel should talk to Hamas.

"I think we should wait and see," he added, appealing to Hamas to turn away from violence and to approach the situation "more realistically."

"After 50 years the time has come to think and to find a way for dialogue. The Israelis have to respect the Palestinians and vice-versa. There is readiness for dialogue on both sides, so really, the time has come," he aid.

The Dalai Lama said the purpose of his trip was to bring human beings closer, and the fact that neither Israeli nor Palestinian officials had agreed to meet with him did not seem to bother him.

2. Huh?
What's the deal with the big discharge of fury? The Dalai Lama's suggestion made sense to me.

Sure, lots of people gush and simper before Tenzin Gyatso like teenagers at a rock concert. Personally, I don't. He is a great man in many ways, but just a plain-old-average-Joe (or Tenzin) most of the time, something he's repeatedly said.

By the way, "Tenzin Gyatso" is his "civilian" name, and I like to use it from time to time to remind the readers that he's a flesh-and-blood human being, like Karol Woytyla was and Joseph Ratzinger is.

It makes no sense to rail at glamor. Laughter is far more effective, and it's easier on the nerves.

3. You know, I don't think I've ever read a post on the DU filled with
so much ignorance as the one you just posted. On so many levels, you display zero understanding of who the Dali Lama is, what his past is, nor what his "predicament", as you call it, is. It's obvious you have either never had one hardship in your life, or you have never learned from the hardships you have indured. What a shame for you.

MatrixEscape, you are trapped in a Matrix of your own design of which you will never escape, until you attempt to look beyond your own delusions. Good luck.

You just made it to my ignore list.

4. So true!
"There is nothing worse than a clown who plays a part and does not admit to being a clown."

So, when do we report to the big-top?

5. say what?
You might want to consider taking a step back and a deep breath. You might look-up Buddhism in an encyclopedia for some basic info.
