The Chaser got a lot of attention this past week...
AWB inquiry not laughing over 'The Chaser' stuntThe lawyer for an AWB executive giving evidence at the Cole inquiry has asked for protection for his client after an incident outside the inquiry involving satirical television program The Chaser.
The lawyer for AWB executive Charles Stott told the inquiry that during the lunch break someone had thrust himself in front of the television cameras asking Mr Stott to sign a large cheque to be sent to Saddam Hussein.
He said it was intimidation of his client and should not be tolerated.
The lawyer asked Commissioner Terence Cole for protection for the witness to and from the inquiry and to consider whether the incident was contempt.
Commissioner Cole says the matter was serious and a witness should never be threatened.
He asked the lawyer to gather statements from witnesses so the matter could be referred to the Australian Federal Police for further investigation.
