Dozens of PA police block major Gaza road demanding salaries
Dozens of masked Palestinian policemen blocked a major road in the Gaza Strip and stormed a government building Saturday as they demanded their overdue salaries from the Hamas-led government.

The gunmen surrounded the building, where town councilors have their offices, taking positions on the roof and on balconies and firing in the air. The Palestinian Chamber of Commerce also has offices there.

The protest was one of the first signs of discontent with the new government, which took office late last month.

...

'We want salaries'
A leader of the Khan Yunis protest who gave his name only as Abu Hassan said "we want salaries. We want the government to live up to its responsibilities."

"If they don't have the ability to secure our salaries and to guarantee good living conditions for the people, they either have to step aside or to ask the people what the next step must be. They cannot act alone," he said.

1. Where are all their so-called Arab friends.............
so it seems they cannot survive w/o US & European aid. We supply the aid which they in turn would use to fund terrorism. Hamas is beginning to sound like a paper tiger rather than a government leader. It isn't pledging its funds.

3. Haniyeh accuses Abbas of paralyzing Hamas gov't
<snip>

"Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh has leveled unprecedented criticism at Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, accusing the "presidential institution" of trying to deny the elected Palestinian government its powers and present it as lacking the ability to govern.

Delivering a Friday sermon in a mosque in the Jabalya refugee camp in the Gaza Strip, Haniyeh said the cabinet would remain in office for its full term, and warned that bringing about its downfall would have disastrous results."

<snip>

"How is it possible that a government from which control of internal security and border crossings has been taken away is the very government responsible for the payment of salaries to PA officials, after that government has been deprived of its powers by means of intentional decisions and it is left hanging, with its ministries emptied by intentional decision ," Haniyeh said."

<snip>

"Haniyeh made it clear that at present, his government, which inherited a debt of $750 million, was unable to pay the salaries of the PA officials. He slammed the international boycott of the Hamas government, calling it "an unholy alliance led by the United States, whose motives are suspect," and adding that "not two weeks after the cabinet was sworn in did the world begin its economic siege and set impossible conditions."

According to Haniyeh, "This is the elected government of the people and all sides must respect this. It will not change its positions as a result of this unfair pressure."

4. Helloo....israel has a lot to do with this....
not just withholding tax monies, not just closing down karmi and stopping the palestenain exports but the whole situation has "the israeli stamp".

The whole destruction of the PA leads back to israel...of course the hamas got elected, which only serves israel..divide and conquer, its the oldest strategy known to man...and it still works.

The palestenains society is now at each others throats, thanks to israel......as the reigning military and economic power in the region, israel has a responsability toward those whom are less well off, not to mention the fact that israel caused all of it.

seems to me, all of that aid going to israel should be directed towards those that could really us it ....to feed their children
