GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip — A Palestinian militant group on Wednesday threatened to kill an abducted Jewish settler if Israel doesn't stop its raid on the Gaza Strip.

The Popular Resistance Committees, which has claimed responsibility for abducting both the settler and an Israeli army corporal, said in a statement that "we are running out of patience."

Israeli troops entered southern Gaza and planes attacked three bridges and a power station, knocking out electricity in most of the coastal strip early Wednesday and stepping up the pressure on Palestinian militants who abducted the 19-year-old Israeli soldier. Israeli authorities have not confirmed the settler's abduction.

Report: Israeli body found in Ramallah
"...According to Abu Abir, the new unit, which consists of several dozen gunmen, is called Knights of Rage. "We will continue our attacks on Israel until the leaders of Israel are brought to their knees," he said. " Olmert and Peretz must know that we will never be defeated and that we will continue to fight for our rights."

In addition, security sources claimed that they had received two independent pieces of intelligence information, one indicating that Palestinians had killed an Israeli on Sunday night, and one indicating that Palestinians were holding the body of an Israeli. On Tuesday night, IDF forces were reportedly combing villages in the Ramallah area. ...'

3. It's looking increasingly as though the story is right...
The kidnapping part at least is. What isn't clear is whether he's still alive or not...

Terror group exhibits ID card of missing Itamar teenager

The Popular Resistance Committees held a press conference on Wednesday, during which a spokesman for the group displayed the national identification card of Itamar settler Eliyahu Yitzhak Asheri.

Asheri has been missing since Sunday, and the PRC has maintained for two days that it has abducted the youth.

Earlier Wednesday, a PRC spokesman told Al-Jazeera satellite TV that the settler would be "butchered in front of TV cameras" if doesn't stop its raid on the Gaza Strip, which began in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Just a note: While yr claims of the capture of an Israeli soldier being an act of terrorism is incorrect, the kidnapping of this person most definately is an act of terrorism...

"Adding to the tension, a Palestinian militant group said it executed an 18-year-old Jewish settler kidnapped in the West Bank. Palestinian security officials said they believed the body of Eliahu Asheri had been found in the West Bank city of Ramallah."

6. Its been coming for a long time...I think we all knew it even while

we prayed it would not happen.

It seems so awful to say that I can see both sides. Awful, because the supporters of each side are so absolute in their defense. So unbending...so unwavering in their inability - their unwillingness to walk a mile in the other man's shoes. Immediately each side thinks that the centrist onlooker is his enemy. Conversation regarding the situation is not allowed.

I was a preteen in 1948, so I remember this conflict from its beginning and now I know that there will never, ever be an end to this constant agitation and warfare. I add the IP conflict to the list of mysteries that will never be solved in my lifetime, i.e., the alien landings in Roswell, (I remember the newspaper stories about it that just as suddenly disappeared), the murder of John F. Kennedy, and the inability of both sides in IP to come to some kind of fair and peaceful solution.

Back in the 70s I read Michner's epic work of historical fiction, THE SOURCE, and as a result for many years I thought I fully understood the situation. But as time went on, cruel, thooughtless things were said on both sides. Sometimes it seemed as though there was deliberate agitation just before a peaceful compromise could be reached.

There is just this ever on-going "You hit me - so now I hit you"behavior going back and forth until it is just plain tiresome.

I feel sorry for everyone over there, for both sides, going through what they are going through. I wish they would make an agreement and KEEP IT and stop having these continuing vendettas.

Edit: changed a word
