Mother, 2 children die in explosion in Gaza home
IDF advances to within 500 meters of Gaza City

<snip>

"A six-year-old Palestinian girl, her elder brother and her mother were killed Saturday evening in an explosion in a house east of Gaza City, medical sources said.

The explosion occurred in the neighborhood of Sajaiyeh, near the Karni border crossing on Gaza's eastern border with Israel.

The Israel Defense Forces denied responsibility for the fatalities, but confirmed that it launched an airstrike in the area, claiming it was aiming for a group of armed gunmen."

5. You missed Step One...
Which is: "The IDF didn't do it! The proof is that the IDF said so!! This is a Hamas explosion which was set up to make Israel look bad!!'

Then, when all the facts are showing otherwise, change tack to: 'Israel has a right to defend herself!! This woman and her children shouldn't have allowed themselves to be hidden behind by militants!!'

Or... just ignore this thread and take up residence in others making absurd claims that Palestinian civilians aren't suffering, there haven't really been civilian deaths as Israel is very restrained and does its best to avoid hitting civilians ;)

28. I referred to it as a tragedy...
...it is pretty obvious that I see the event as tragic; thus the use of the word "tragedy."

19. Should they do that before or after Israel stops killing them?
If before, how long should they put up with 'targeted assasinations', deadly force against rock throwers, and other routine killings by the IDF that somehow never stop before resuming their use of the barely effective rockets?

20. And again:
Palestinian bystander killed in IAF strike in south Gaza

<snip>

"A Palestinian civilian was killed by an Israel Air Force aircraft which launched missiles at a car carrying Hamas operatives in the south Gaza town of Rafah.

The dead Palestinian was identified as Bilal Sliman Rabah, an 18-year-old supermarket clerk. Seven other Palestinians were wounded in the errant strike, including one in very serious condition.

The missile was fired from the air towards a car carrying members of the Iz a-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the Hamas military wing, in the Shuka region near Rafah.

The gunmen managed to jump out of the car before the missile reached the target. The aircraft subsequently fired a second missile which struck the bystanders."

4. Hush, don't you know that it isn't Israel's fault that their rockets seem
to fall on innocent women and children, old people, etc. Israel is the perpetual victim, don't you understand that? Palestinians have a lot of nerve objecting to having their land and water stolen. So they deserve to have have their land occupied, poison in their wells, their fruit and olive trees cut down, being fenced in on unarable land. If they'd quit thinking that the were entitled to civil rights and were just as entitled to be included in the world economy as Israel, if they'd just learn their place, why things would just be roses.

I mean, what else is an eternally put upon and innocent nation to do?

8. Girl killed as Israel tightens grip on Gaza
Marie Colvin in Gaza

A SIX-YEAR-OLD Palestinian girl, her mother and elder brother were killed in a house on the edge of Gaza City last night, shortly after a stray Israeli missile targeting militants struck a residential area.

The girl, identified as Rawan Hajaj, was taken to hospital wrapped in blankets, the back of her head shorn open. Six others were injured when what Palestinians described as an artillery shell hit the house.

The Israeli military, initially denying that any shells had been fired, later admitted a missile had missed its target in an open field and landed on a street in the Shajaya district on the outskirts of the city, near the Karni border crossing.

As the death toll in Gaza rose, attempts to find a diplomatic solution to the crisis triggered by the kidnapping of an Israeli soldier were foundering over Syria’s ambitions to exploit the confrontation for its own gain.

23. This was entirely predictable
and it's one reason why Israel's incursion into Gaza is indefensible. It was collective punishment from the minute they bombed the transformers and bridges. It's still collective punishment. The longer this continues, the more civilians will die. It's shameful that there hasn't, to my knowledge, been one US politician to denounce it.

25. Actually, there has been one.....

Congressman Kucinich issued the following statement this week on the current situation in the Middle East:

"The lack of proportionality of Israel's response to the kidnapping of the soldier compounds a human rights disaster which has been building in the Palestinian territories and could set the stage for reigniting a cycle of extreme violence.

More at his website http://www.kucinich.us/

He also knocks the Hamas government for the kidnapping of Corporal Shalit.

He is the only US politician that I know of that advocates treating the parties in the mid-east with an equal hand.
