IDF official: No humanitarian crisis in Gaza
Palestinians often present exaggerated picture to advance their own interests, head of the Coordination and Liaison Administration, Colonel Nir Peres, tells Ynet. There is no danger of running out of flour, wheat, and other basic products, he says; fuel, dairy products and other basic necessities just delivered
Hanan Greenberg

There is neither hunger nor a humanitarian crisis in Gaza, head of the Coordination and Liaison Administration, Colonel Nir Peres, told Ynet on Tuesday. “There is nothing of the sort. Of course, the situation can’t really be defined as good, but a lot is being done so that nothing is lacking there.”

1. This is just sickening
Talk about self serving statements. Anyone can see what the Israeli incursion into Gaza is: Collective punishment. Perhaps the IDF spokesman is technically correct about food supplies, but that ignores the real suffering from a military incursion, sonic booms, reduced electricity and water, and the terror and helplessness of the Gazans, many of whom are children.

3. The IDF spokesman
is a master of double speak. "Palestinians need to realize that at the end of the day, terrorism hurts them,” he sums up. “Terror leads them to this situation. We believe they’re beginning to understand this. Here and there, it can be seen that people are questioning ‘What do we need this for?’ But not out loud, and that is what will transform the picture. But it is all part of the process."
In other words "we have almost broke them"”

5. It's not double speak
It's social learning theory, which is the prevailing paradigm in modern psychology.

13. Wow--thanks for the link
this is definitely the worst wiki entry I have ever seen. Social learning theory was first developed by Bandura, Rotter and a few others and stands as the cornerstone of modern cognitive psychology. Here are a few links:

and links about natural and logical consequences (which is based on SLT):

15. What's wrong with what he said? Abbas basically said the same
thing... that terrorism hurts them. And in fact it does. If it does them any good, what is it. Your last sentence there is incorrect.

8. Their receptionist said there was nothing they could tell me.
Edited on Tue Jul-11-06 03:06 PM by Jim Sagle
That was in DC. The Chicago branch said they "don't have time to make intimidating phone calls."

Move along...nothing to see here...

11. OTOH, I learned that caller ID is easily spoofed.
So the chance that it was a fake call are quite high.

7. ALRIGHT! Life is good in Gaza....
A veritable paradise under the benevolent management of IDF entertainment teams.

Yeah, that's the ticket.

9. Such a credible source. The same group that told us that Tom
Hurndall was wearing camouflage when they blew his brains out!
:sarcasm:

If the situation were not so dire, this would be funny.
