Mubarak: Israel was planning to free Palestinian prisoners
By The Associated Press

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert was about to release a large number of Palestinian prisoners before the crisis over the captured Israeli soldier worsened, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said in remarks published Tuesday.

In an interview with the Egyptian state-run newspaper El-Messa, Mubarak spoke of a missed opportunity to resolve the confrontation that developed between Israel and the Palestinians after militants linked to the Hamas government kidnapped an Israel Defense Forces soldier on June 25 and demanded an exchange for hundreds of Palestinians held in Israeli prisons.

"Ehud Olmert, the Israeli prime minister, promised me to free a large number of Palestinian prisoners," Mubarak said. "But events suddenly escalated."

8. An unholy alliance. To eliminate the Palestinians?
Edited on Tue Jul-11-06 05:06 PM by azurnoir
a bit over stated? What I said was psychological warfare. The aim of this is to break the will to fight not to kill. Or as you called it on another thread (yours I believe) Social Learning Theory or more simply put make them physically uncomfortable (hungry, thirsty, hot, cold) sleep deprived and demoralized mentally, distrustful of their leaders and constantly in fear.
forgot to spell check

11. I was being sarcastic--thought it was evident
Social learning theory has nothing to do with breaking anyone's will, it's about how people learn from observation and how behavior is shaped by natural and logical consequences.

12. Hamas? Fatah?
Two weeks ago there would have been a difference, now?......
This plan would not been very workable because it requires atleast a modicum of trust between the parties involved. Israel stated that they did not want the mutual releases to be simultaneous, So who goes first? The whole deal would have collapsed in that argument alone.
