get their oil supply from the middle east while we get most of ours from Central/South America and Canada. Neither Europe or Japan is going to set around forever waiting for this to stop.

Several things could happen: first they could side with Iran and other oil producers in the ME or we will push them closer to Russia so that they can get their oil from there. Either way, the so called goal we have in the ME will backfire on us.

Emphasis on "willingly". And the IDF would most likely be relieved to have a conventional enemy that it could decisively "defeat". So it seems more likely that Syria will be dragged in, if that happens. I would expect Syria to try to stay on the sidelines while. supporting Lebanese resistance and increasing it's influence there, as it did last time.
