EU Lashes Israel, Announces New Aid to PA
(IsraelNN.com) The European Union (EU) Friday continued to lash out at Israel for its reprisals against the Hizbullah terrorist infrastructure and also announced another $63 million in aid for the Palestinian Authority (PA). The money is earmarked for food distribution, basic health services and water and sanitation, according to a EU commission statement. The EU has set up a mechanism to bypass the Hamas government, which the United States has blacklisted because it is a terrorist organization.

Louis Michel, commissioner for the aid, said he condemned the escalating violence but emphasized that civilians in the Gaza region and in Lebanon are "casualties of the Israeli blockades and incursions."

1. Good.
Israel needs to be roundly condemned for it's disproportionate response, and the Palestinian population deserves aid.

20. Go to Arafat's multi-billion dollar estate
and get aid from there too.

Lest we forget...

2. "reprisals against the Hizbullah terrorist infrastructure"
Right, could this piece be any more slanted? The airport in Beirut is hardly "Hizbullah infrastructure", much less "terrorist". At least the EU is trying to do the right thing in this mess.

6. Nor Are The Civilian Homes Being Bombed.
This is more of the same anti-Palestinian propaganda that out government wants American's to buy.

It is just more lies from the right wing and their so-called liberal zionist buddies.

Maybe that 10 year old girl that I was reading about earlier this morning was part of that terrorist infrastructure? She was found in blown into three parts (some in a tree).

Damn terrorists deserve what they get! (/sarcasm)

3. Maybe You Have Not Noticed. But, The Only People Not Lashing
Edited on Fri Jul-14-06 10:39 AM by DistressedAmerican
Israel for this totally out of proportion attack are Israelis and their American zionist defenders. The entire rest of the world condemns it. What are you missing here?

I suppose you think we should starve the Palestinian civilian population for exercizing their vote? Cut off their medical supplies, etc?

Israel is clearly out of line. The entire rest of the world knows it.

I suppose you are now going to explain how you did not write this OP either? As if you did not mean to advocate the anti-Palestinian tone implied.

I think your propaganda is really showing this morning.

7. I Know Nothing.

All I have to judge by is two posts this morning that are clearly slanted against the Palestinians ("continued to lash out at Israel for its reprisals against the Hizbullah terrorist infrastructure ..."). Including that total propaganda piece called "Hezbelloh's Deadly Arsenal".

If that is strong advocacy for Palestinians, maybe it is me that is confused.

19. Could you explain why you feel the piece is slanted?
I'm not sure I understand why you feel the quote "continued to lash out at Israel for its reprisals against the Hizbullah terrorist infrastructure" is biased against Palestinians. To the best of my knowledge, Hizbullah and the Palestinians are not related. Hizbullah is widely regarded as a terrorist organization, and has formally been declared as such by the EU, US, and Australia, among others. The word "reprisal" generally, in my experience anyway, retaliating for a harm or injury. And in this case, Hizbullah did make the first move, that is kidnapping two soldiers off of Israeli land and killing several others. Israeli's response, whether you consider it to be appropriate or not, seems to me to be justly called at reprisal. I would like to understand why you feel differently.

5. It's good that they are saying something, but they need to DO something
all that aid to Palestine is going to be blown to bits unless they stop Israel. Must call for sanctions.

8. Sanctions where?
In a more equitable world we would see sanctions, but I don't see the point in calling for them if you can't possibly impose them.

11. Israel is trading with all the world, it does not want to see that end.
Or even impeded in any way.

A most obvious target would be any contracts that have to do with military arms. Either to buy arms or send arms to this nation that is aggressively toward its neighbors.

16. Global outcry at bombing
<snip>

"WORLD powers fear Israel's clashes with Middle Eastern rivals are escalating with breathtaking speed into a region-wide conflict with global security implications.

The European Union warned Israel's offensive in Lebanon may spread - drawing Syria into "uncontrollable" fighting - as Israel bombarded roads, fuel tanks, power supplies and communication networks in reprisal for Hezbollah's capture of two Israeli soldiers.

The price of oil surged to a record $US78.40 a barrel - compared with this year's average of $US67.67 - amid fears the conflict could spread to more countries.

"We consider the situation to be very bad and there is the continuing possibility that it could worsen; that the conflict could expand, especially to Syria," said Finland's Foreign Minister, Erkki Tuomioja, whose country holds the EU presidency. "The consequences could be truly uncontrollable."

21. Rather ironic
since the NATO members of the EU cheerfully bombed the crap out of infrastructure in the Balkans less than a decade ago (not to mention those in Afghanistan and Iraq).
