Woman and five-year-old grandson killed in Moshav Meron rocket attack
A woman and her 5-year-old grandson were killed, and four others were injured, when a Katyusha rocket fired by Hezbollah slammed into a home in Moshav Meron on Friday evening.

Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Dan Halutz said Friday that Hezbollah has rockets that can reach as much as 70 kilometers (43.5 miles) or more, an admission that brings more major cities within their range, including possibly Hadera and Netanya. This would mean that Hezbollah has rockets that could reach within 20 to 30 kilometers of Tel Aviv.

---

Dozens of people were injured throughout the day Friday, as Katyusha rockets landed in the Galilee.

The Prime Minister's Office responded to the attacks, saying it was "totally committed to bringing about a cession of this terror."

You're doing a heck of a job, Ehud.

1. Please. I need to hear your peace plan.
You seem to know a better way. Please don't keep it to yourself.

6. Actually, I'm not very optimistic at this point.
None of the factors that used to keep these things in bounds seem to be present now, and it's rapidly degenerating into a dick-waving contest. I would guess it will be a while before there is any chance to tone things down again. In fact, there appears to be a good chance for other countries to jump or get dragged into it too.

7. good question
the deaths of civilians on either side or any of the sides is wrong.

Now is the time for all sides to stop -- or a strong leader (I'll wait till you all get up from the floor after falling down from laughter -- after seeing the words "strong leader")

a strong leader make all sides sit down and negotiate.

But we know that there are no strong mature leaders in the world -- so the idiots will keep killing and killing and killing.

9. First of all we do hear
about them, and on this board, as we should, we hear about Palestinian victims a great deal.

But this thread is about a little boy and his grandmother who were killed by H'zbollah firing rockets indiscriminantly at civilian targets, and his death is just as wonton, cruel and tragic as the deaths of Palestinian children.

It's just tacky to come on a thread like this and make that claim. I'm sure you'd see that if the reverse ocurred.

11. The post they were replying to put their comments into context...
This was not one of those tacky attempts to arrive into a thread on either the deaths of Israelis or Palestinians and start some sort of 'Look at my victims! Look at my victims! They're much more important!!' routine. They were replying to someone who made the ridiculous claim that Israel has been displaying restraint and might not be patient anymore....

15. I think I'm safe in assuming the post prior to it was motivation...
If you disagree, feel free to explain why you have some way of knowing what motivated it when you seem to think no-one else has no way of knowing. fwiw, I've been a resident in this forum for a few years and I've seen plenty of examples on both sides of what you accused that poster of, and this wasn't one of those instances...

14. moral equivalence?

" But this thread is about a little boy and his

=============================================

The deaths of Palestinian children is not as "wanton and
cruel" as the deaths of Israelies who are specifically
targeted by these terrorist cock-roaches. While they are
tragic - they are hardly as wanton and cruel.

What's cruel is that the world sits back and allows terrorist
toilet bugs to do whatever they want, without lifting a finger
to stop them. And when Israel tries to stop them - they're
condemned no matter what they do. Seems the only
"moral" thing Israel can do is lay down and die at
the hands of these murderous Hizbollah and Hamas scum.

Sad.

17. language disgusting?
Nazis who carried out their genocidal orders were nothing but toilet bugs. I fail to see how comparing Hamas and Hizbollah scumbags to their Nazi comrades is disgusting.

Enlighten me please.

a discourse with anyone who dehumanizes people by referring to them as toilet bugs. It's simply inflamatory language.

Catagorizing people wasa a Nazi trait to make them seem less human and their oppression more acceptable. Yes it is disgusting.

20. You may have to explain the difference here...
See, I totally agree with that bit of Cali's post. How is the death of an Israeli child indiscriminately killed by a rocket any more wanton and cruel than the death of a Palestinian child indiscriminately killed by a rocket?

24. indiscriminate
Edited on Sat Jul-15-06 10:10 AM by ChuckyDee
If Palestinian children are indiscrimantly targeted by Israel, that is equivalent to Hizbullah tactics. However, it is not Israeli policy and it has never been to target Palestinian children indiscrimantly.

Being that it is not indiscriminate, there is no moral equivalency whatsoever.

Now you and others may REALLY, REALLY like to believe and hope to someday prove that Israel is just as nasty as all their neighbors, but I'm sorry to disappoint you. Sometimes, things are black and white. War is hell and should never be fought - but there are times in which humanity MUST take a stand against evil (like in the 30's and 40's with Hitler's Germany). This is one of those times. Make no mistake about it - this is a WORLD problem - not just regional. We are ALL dealing with terrorism.
