IDF Reserve Infantry Division Called Up

(IsraelNN.com) An IDF reserve infantry division was called up on Sunday to prepare for a possible ground operation in south Lebanon, according to The Jerusalem Post.

Armored personnel carriers (APCs) and tanks were reportedly moving north and command posts were being set up along the northern border.

Nobody should be surprised if Israel goes into Lebanon. You can't stop katyushas with air fire, you have to displace them; you can't bomb camouflaged installations if you can't see them, and typically they're easy to see from the ground.

Look for a negotiated solution in a few weeks: Israel will go in, takes losses, and do their best to clear out Hezbollah. They will then offer to turn over the territory to the Lebanese Army and government, on condition that they do not allow re-arming of Hezbollah, and finish disarming Hezbollah in areas not occupied by Israel.

This will be completely consistent with what Israel's said, but not with any extant "greater Israel" theory; yet it will be claimed to support firmly and only the later kind of explanation.
