Letter from a soldier
I received this tonight from a friend who knows this Israeli soldier. As an aside, the soldier happens to be a woman, not exactly surprising since Israel is the only country in the world where women are drafted alongside men. The letter doesn't tell us anything earthshattering about the politics in this war, but it does put a human face on the supposedly ruthless thugs regularly portrayed by the anti-Israel posters on this site. I've deleted the soldier's name for privacy reasons.

"hey everyone

A lot of you wrote to me and asked about the situation in Israel so I decided to say a few words. A few things happened:

GILAD SHALIT, an israeli sodier was kidnapped to Gaza by HAMAS terror organization about 2 weeks ago and we know he got hurt when they captured him, we never heard from him and nobody knows whether he is still alive.
By the same time of the solder kidnapped, a civilian named ITAMAR was kidnapped and killed horribly. He was only 17 years old. The thing in Israel is that it's a small country and whenever something like that happens its very close to everyone's hearts cause every body knows
somebody who knows the one that died or kidnapped, served with him or when to school with him. Its never just a name.

Also 2 days ago 2 more soldiers were kidnapped too by HIZBALLA terror troops from Lebanon and 7 other soldiers were killed. The thing is that unlike the Gaza terrorists, there is no dispute about territory in the north of the country and still, the soldiers were attacked inside Israel. There
was no trigger for them to attack us. They want to make it a routine to capture soldiers and give them back in exchange for terrorists from there organization, so they can hurt us again. Last time' 3 soldiers were given back to Israel but the were dead.

It important to know that most of the time, the people that are kidnapped don't come back alive, or don't come back at all. Most of them are dying a horrified death. They have no respect to life.

As a soldier, I can tell you that all the IDF is taking part in the effort to bring our Israelis back home and let the terrorists know that we will not tolerate this kind of aggression. Everybody in my base are working day and night. I have trust in our country and the IDF to do what is right. I know
there is voices by other countries leaders against what we are doing but you have to trust me' we have know other option and we have to defend our people.

I am afraid. My dad is also in the IDF – he is a rescuer so he is up north ready to rescue in case a missile will make a building collapse up on citizens and I'm scared for him and praying he'll be ok. He wont be sleeping at home anytime soon and in fact, I don't know when he is coming back Also my boyfriend is up north in the border between Israel and Syria and I'm worrying for him too, they missed him by few kilometers (air kilometers) and I don't know when i'll see him again either. I wish god to keep the to most important men in my life safe.

I hope you understand what the people here including myself are going through. I hope it will be over soon.

For ending, ill write to you a few sentences in English letters but the meaning is in Hebrew. It a song from the bible and it describes Rachel that is crying because her sons are out of there land and god is answering to her that she don't need to cry no more cause the will come back. I'm gonna write to you what god is answering to her:

" KO AMAR HASHEM (so god said)

MINY KOLEH MIBEHI VE ENAIH MIDIMA (may your voice not cry and your eyes
will
have no tears)

KI YESH TIKVA LE AHARITEH (cause there is hope for your legacy)

NEUM ASHEM ( that's the words of god)

VE SHAVU BANIM LIGVULAM" (and the sons will come back to their land)

So there is hope that things will get better, and they will. they have to.

I love you all a lot and I really am thinking about you all the time.

Kisses

R***
