British Anger at Jewish Act of Terror Celebration
The rightwingers, including Binyamin Netanyahu, the former Prime Minister, are commemorating the bombing of the King David Hotel in Jerusalem, the headquarters of British rule, that killed 92 people and helped to drive the British from Palestine.

They have erected a plaque outside the restored building, and are holding a two-day seminar with speeches and a tour of the hotel by one of the Jewish resistance fighters involved in the attack.

1. To some, terrorism is defined as terrorism...

...only when it aims to achieve goals they don't support.

2. not good, & very bad taste. do you propose to roll the clock back to 1948?
because if you do it isn't going to happen

Until people realize that Israel is going to stay, then there will be constructive talks and the creation of a Palestinian state

Just pointing out the double-standard.

12. Please, say that "roll the clock back to 1948" thing again.
Some people in Mongolia haven't heard it yet.

4. According to Netanyahu "the Irgun were governed by morals...
unlike fighters from groups such as Hamas" and "you must make the distinction between terror groups and freedom fighters and between terror action and legitimate military action". So to him the bombing of the King David hotel was a legitimate military action. I think maybe Netanyahu's morals should be questioned. I guess its OK if it concerns Israel. Talk about hypocrisy.

5. Puke.
Of course Netanyahu's moral should be questioned. This is not only hypocritical, as anyone familiar with the Irgun knows, it's despicable.

8. It was very moral of the Irgun ...
to liberate the villagers at Deir Yassin from their lives.

The spin is nauseating.

6. Interesting response from the Jewish Agency in Palestine:
"The executive of the Jewish Agency and the executive of the Uaad Leumi express their horror at the dastardly crime perpetrated by the gang of desperadoes who today attacked the government offices in Jerusalem and shed the innocent blood of government officers and other citizens, British, Jewish, and Arab. They extend their deepest sympathies to the relatives of those who have been murdered and to those who have been injured".

14. Netanyahu has a long history of stupid moron assholishness....
From being responsible for much of the incitement to violence against Rabin that ultimately culminated in his assassination to this creepy stunt, the only good thing that can be said about him is that he's damn consistant. Thankfully other members of his family make up for his shortcomings....

10. To far too many people, morality is just a temporary frame of mind
The Brits were hanging Jews in Palestine while the survivors of the Holocaust were still looking for their missing loved ones.

What will it take for people to realize that one's grievances does not justify taking the lives of innocent people?

11. Will the US media cover this?
To have Netanyahu--a former prime minister--and leading spokesman for Israel on US television channels involved in this should be a big story, especially for a nation that likes to claim the moral high ground over the Palestinians.

16. It made big newspapers like Boston Globe but ONLY as a...
..."This Day In History" entry (single sentence). Nothing else anywhere in MSM that I could find. Of course it was covered much more in the Israeli Press (at least by Ha'Aretz), The Guardian, and some others. You can do a Google News search for "King David hotel" to see for yourself.

Oh well, not entirely unexpected.
