Hezbollah fighters seized
Hezbollah fighters seized
Abraham Rabinovich, Jerusalem
July 24, 2006

ISRAELI troops captured a number of Hezbollah fighters at the weekend and completed the takeover of a strategic ridge in southern Lebanon on which seven Israeli commandos died in bitter fighting last week.
The capture of Hezbollah prisoners, the first since the current operation began, will enable Israeli intelligence to update its information on Hezbollah's deployment and intentions. The army also detained a number of Lebanese civilians in the area for questioning.

The bodies of 13 Hezbollah fighters were retrieved from the battlefield and brought into Israel, where they would be buried until negotiations were held for an exchange of prisoners, officials said.

14. If that's how you want to see it
Both Jewish and Muslim customs call for burial of the dead shortly after death. Sticking the corpses in a meat freezer for a few months would be considered highly disrespectful. This is just a matter of Israel treating the dead of its enemy with the respect that it would hope that their dead would be treated.

2. Notice how the word "captured" is used
Edited on Sun Jul-23-06 06:21 PM by liberalhistorian
in regard to the taking of Hezbollah fighters, and that they're prisoners of war, and yet the word "kidnapped" is routinely used when Israeli soldiers are taken, and they're held "hostage" and not prisoners of war, as they should be known.

And exactly what in the hell do Lebanese civilians have to do with anything in regards to "questioning?" Oh, yeah, that's right; they all have control over Hezbollah and Hamas. :eyes:

4. I thought Israel made clear there would be no such negotiations.
So why bring the bodies back?

8. I suggest you revise your comment.
I do not want it associated with me whatsoever. If you're accusing me of suggesting what you said, that's absolutely unwarranted and deeply insulting. And it's not appropriate in any fashion.

13. So how much do they think the bodies will bring?
Clearly Hezbollah regards bodies, dead and alive, as a form of human currency. They have in the past, and that's the reason for abducting the Israeli soldiers.
