Hamas Denounces Bank Account Lockdown
Hamas Denounces Bank Account Lockdown

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20030916/ap_on_re_mi_ea/jordan_hamas_2

- The Palestinian militant organization Hamas on Tuesday denounced a Jordanian decision to freeze the bank accounts of six of its leaders and five charity organizations, saying the government was giving in to "American dictates."

Jordan froze the accounts on Monday, days after the European Union (news - web sites) blacklisted Hamas as a terrorist group, also freezing its funds.

"The Islamic resistance movement Hamas expresses its great resentment and condemnation of this dangerous measure taken by the Jordanian government," said a statement faxed to The Associated Press.

It said the group "condemns the fact that Jordan has become the first Arab and Muslim country to take such a step that has no justification other than implementing American dictates."

Jordan Information Minister Nabil-Al-Sharif said Tuesday that the issue had no "political dimensions" and that the decision was made "for banking purposes only," according to the official Petra news agency. He did not elaborate.

4. Good for Jordan!
More proof that Israel isn't alone in its fight against terrorism (not that there ever was doubt that it wasn't.)
