3. Actually, I thought Israel did this weeks ago when this latest round...
...of shit started after Palestinian assailants kidnapped a soldier in Gaza. Sounded like they detained the entire government at that time. :shrug:

4. From haaretz:
http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/746672.html

"Israeli forces detained eight members of the Palestinian cabinet and 23 legislators in June after gunmen from Hamas and two other militant groups infiltrated into Israel from Gaza and kidnapped IDF soldier Gilad Shalit, who is still being held.

Three of the ministers have since been released."

8. Yeah, they did. Two important points to note from that:
A) Olmert's government wanted to use them as counter-hostages for the release of (at that point) Shalit. The Israeli Attorney General said no dice but it didn't stop Olmert from holding them anyway

B) The Director of Shin Bet said, in no uncertain terms, that the arrest of the legislators was something that had been planned "for weeks" even when Shalit, at that point, had only been held for less than 6 days.

9. Please
Do you guys realize that Hamas is a terrorist organization wiht teh blood of thousands of Israeli civilians on their hands? Just because they get elected does not mean that they are no longer evil. By this same logic, it would mean that since Tom Delay was elected, he should be immune from being arrested for his crimes. i don tsee many of you arguing for that.

Holding office doesnt make you innocent of all crimes

11. Legal hitch could stop PA officials facing terror charges
<snip>

"It will be difficult to prosecute many of the Palestinian Authority ministers and parliamentarians held by Israel, legal sources involved in the matter have recently reported.

The sources noted it would be difficult to prove that the senior officials, most members of Hamas, were even indirectly involved in terrorist activities. In some cases, the detained officials had no record of involvement in any terrorist activities.

Attorney General Menachem Mazuz authorized last week's operation in which 64 senior Palestinian officials, cabinet members of the Hamas-led government and members of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC), were arrested."

<snip>

"The decision to proceed with the arrests was considered controversial among many in the defense and legal establishments.

"This was a gut reaction to the kidnapping," one of the sources claimed. "It was clear to all that the aim was to step up pressure on the Palestinian Authority that would result in the soldier's release. It is highly doubtful as to whether there will be any indictments here. Some of the detainees will be released fairly quickly - and others will be freed if a deal is struck for the release of the soldier," he added."

12. re
mexico's government does not have as its main platform destruction of the United States and does not members who have murdered thousands of israeli citizens. the point is that being elected does not entitle you to some kind of amnesty for murder.
