If Israeli military are seizing Lebanese military barracks and taking |
|
Lebanese soldiers prisoner, how the hell do they expect the Lebanese army to contain Hizbollah? It just like Israel blowing up Palestinian security posts and killing security forces and then claiming that the Palestinians were not doing enough to secure the borders and to go after militants.

2. I'm still not quite sure what to make of the report. |
|
On the one hand, it means the Leb. Army had a presence there. But did nothing to deal with Hezb. But the assumption's been the Army didn't have a presence in the south. Unless this is some army-police cooperative force that I'm unfamiliar with.
Were they involved in the fighting on either side? Did they just sit there with the police as the battle went on around them? If so, where's the "all Lebanese are resisting the Israelis!" claim left? If they were fighting, then it means the Israelis were absurdly dipomatic/civil by merely saying they could leave.
As for the barracks ('garrison', in another report), they're easily re-occupied.

It's no surprise because they blew up Lebanese barracks during the first week. Israel is attacking all of Lebanon. To understand what's going on, just ignore all the spin out of Israel and MSM. sp.

5. Lebanon had 6 years to deal with Hezbollah |
|
and declined to do so. It's a little late to say "oh how is the Lebanese Army going to deal with Hezbollah now"

7. Point taken. However, the ENTIRE ME + USA had some responsibility |
|
to assist the Government of Lebanon in the systematic disarming of Hezbollah. We had EXCELLENT negotiators over in the Middle East before Dear Leader became pResident. One of which was Major General (Ret.) Anthony Zinni. However, as soon as The Chimperor was in office, ALL these negotiators were extracted from the Middle East.
I think Lebanon has been punished TOO much. The USA and Israel could have worked with this fledgling Democracy to disarm Hezbollah.
Why didn't they talk with Syria to work with the Lebanese to accomplish the disarming of Hezbollah before we threw a "hissy fit" and forced Syria to leave?
Everyone shares blame, but Lebanon did not deserve to have it's whole nation turned into a parking lot because we were NOT successful in assisting Lebanon's new democracy. :(

At some point if a nation is going to be a nation it's got to step up and take responsibility for itself. We did the most important thing for Lebanon, which was to get the Syrians out. We also supported the liberalization of the "Cedar Revolution". They still did not rise to the occasion, sadly. Do you doubt that we would have helped had they only asked us for that assistance?
Working with the Syrians was not an option. The Syrians were not at all inclined to get out of Lebanon, whose riches it was free to plunder.

If we can invade and occupy any nation in the ME, we should be equally capable in the area of Skilled Negotiations and Diplomacy.
We can TALK WITH *ALL of the Countries in the ME, even the ones we don't like. We have done the foregoing before to positive results.
Our Empiric Hubris is filth, and transparently disgusting ... didn't we learn in Vietnam - "YOU CAN'T KILL THEM ALL?" There were TWO MILLION VIETNAMESE killed to our 58,000 but they kept on fighting. What do you call that, "Nationalism." The same fervor you and I would demonstrate if say, the Chinese invaded our beloved America.
We MUST stop behaving like RAMBO. That shit only works in the Movies. What we need are some mature adults to NEGOTIATE a cease fire. It's not a frigging MENSA project to start with ... just a few elements that we can build on. There not ever been a BAD PEACE or a GOOD WAR. No matter how delicate, we need a cease fire NOW.
Unless we want to nurture MILLIONS more ENEMIES of the USA and ISRAEL, we need to set down at the negotiation table and YES = PUSH Everyone (including our buds Israel) to COMPROMISE!
