$50 million in aid from U.S. to Lebanon is not enough
in my opinion...

Rice said the “hard work of diplomacy” was only beginning with the passage of the resolution and that it would be unrealistic to expect an immediate end to all violence. She said the United States would increase its assistance to Lebanon to $50 million, and demanded other nations stop interfering in its affairs.

50 million is a paltry sum, comparatively speaking. I can't help but wonder what just a fraction of the hundreds of billions we've spent in Iraq could do to help Lebanon and improve our standing with the Lebanese government and people.

1. Re: $50 million in aid
Any amount seems really ludicrous. We're supplying the gotdamn bombs for the violence that we can't realistically expect to end immediately. <rolls eyes> What is 50mil? Pennies for their troubles? Ugh, that one is dumber than the bushrock she crawled out from under.

2. obviously...
obviously... the timetable has already been set for the amount of time the IDF needs... and the united nations is being used as a tennis court of negotiations - with just enough volleys to satisfy the predetermined timetable that this agression needs.

i don't know if Condi realizes that or not, since she's dubya's puppet.

i have had a feeling all along that the timing of this conflict was a bit too conveniently timed before an election - moving the media spotlight away from iraq and dubya to something new, as well. that said, i suppose the conflict will conveniently end the week after the elections.

and yes, $50 mil is a slap in the face regarding how much negative sentiment there is towards the US providing billions to israel, and squat to arab countries.

would it be an understatement perhaps if i dare suggest we need a change in foreign policy?

where there's smoke there's fire - the arabs resent / hate us so much there must be something to it. like someone else said today somewhere, an effective slogan - let's provide support to the middle east (and everywhere else) based on need, not on greed.

3. Start at a billion and work up from there...
We supplied the bombs (and the U.N. vetoes) that destroyed Lebanon's entire infrastructure. They need one hell of a lot more than $50M.
