Report: Israel discusses freeing 1,000 Palestinians in Shalit swap
<snip>

"An Israeli delegation is visiting Egypt to discuss a proposed deal for the release of Gilad Shalit, an Israel Defense Forces soldier abducted by Hamas on June 25, a Saudi Arabian newspaper reported Friday.

The deal involves Hamas' release of Shalit in exchange for Israel's release of about 1,000 Palestinians held in Israeli jails, according to a senior Egyptian source quoted by the newspaper, Okaz. The paper said Egypt would help carry out the swap.

According to the proposed deal, the Palestinian prisoners will be freed in three phases, with the first phase beginning three days after Shalit's release, the newspaper reported.

The first 350 prisoners freed will be those facing light jail terms, the second batch of 350 will be facing medium-length terms, and the final batch - also of 350 - will be facing extended prison sentences, according to the deal."

2. I have to wonder if the sour face of Livni, which I saw so much when...
...she was pictured beside Olmert during cabinet meetings after he started the war has now been traded with Olmert who, having made one of the biggest blunders in Israeli military history (and it will make the Israeli history books, if Bibi himself has to print, cut and bind them) is presented with the reasonable, historically-sound, negotiation for the captured soldiers.

  That's an n-word Olmert is very displeased to hear.

4. Report: Deal on Shalit's release in 2 days
Qatari newspaper al-Sharq claims agreement, brokered by various Western, Arab states, includes release of 1,400 Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jails

http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3299290,00.html

<snip>

"Qatari newspaper al-Sharq reported that a security and diplomatic deal for the release of kidnapped soldier, Corporal Gilad Shalit, is due to be signed within 48 hours. According to the report, Shalit will be freed in exchange for the release of 1,400 Palestinian prisoners jailed in Israel.

The agreement was brokered by the United States, France, Russia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Syria, Qatar and Egypt, the newspaper stated.

According to the same sources, Israel has prepared a list of prisoners to be freed. Al-Sharq also claimed that the delay in the announcement
on the deal was the result of internal political difficulties in Israel and the Palestinian Authority.

The Qatar-based paper wrote that the deal has matured after a secret report was sent to the Palestinian factions in Damascus by their envoys in Ramallah. The newspaper claimed it has obtained a copy of the correspondence, which includes the details of the agreement and its 10 clauses.

The document's 10 clauses stipulate the Palestinian demands, including the lifting of the closure placed on the Gaza Strip, pulling out the Israel Defense Forces from the area and suspension of all military activity there. The deal also calls for the opening of the Gaza border crossings, a release of Palestinian funds held by Israel, the freeing of jailed ministers, parliament members and local council members, and a cessation of targeted killings."
