Israeli Arabs appeal for equal compensation for war damages
The Supreme Court is scheduled to discuss a number of appeals on Sunday demanding four northern Israeli Arab villages be granted war compensation on equal terms with those given to neighboring Jewish communities.

The villages of Arab al-Aramsha, Fesuta, Miyaliah and Gush suffered serious damages during the recent conflict with Hezbollah but were denied special privileges given to their neighboring Jewish communities.

Attorney Sawsan Zaher who represents Adalah, the Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel, claimed that the citizens of the Israeli Arab villages were not considered for compensation for reasons that are unclear.

2. Here's to hoping the Israeli
SC does the right thing. It's just disgusting that Arab villages don't get the same aid and compensation as Jewish villages.

5. If the world boycotted
all the countries that act on a par with Israel, the list would be very long indeed.

7. perhaps then the U.S. should provide no more aid to Israel

and no more political support to Israel than it does to other countries that are on par with Israel. If it is aid on a per-person basis that would be quite a dramatic reduction. If it was total aid it would still be a very dramatic reduction.

6. Most Israeli-Arab communities did not have shelters or warning sirens
This in part explains why 40% of the deaths within Israel from the rocket attacks were amoung Israeli-Arabs. Democracy Now did a report on this shortly after on 14 August--

On a related matter -- the plight of the Palestinian with Israeli citizenship is often completely ignored. One Israeli author Susan Nathan, took it upon herself to move into the Arab town of Tamra in Northern Galilee and live as the only Jewish person in a small city of 25,000 Palestinian-Muslims. She has written an excellent book on the subject of the Palestinians within Israel with Israeli citizenship.

8. Where's the international aid for Israel?
Lebanon is getting assistance for its rebuilding. But Israeli communities hit by Katushas are not being offered similar assistance. I just spent a week in the region and the rebuilding costs are huge south of the border as well. Agree that Israel Arabs are entitled to fair treatment, but Israel would have a much easier time helping EVERYONE out if they got international help like Lebanon.

Now begin the attack on me for making such an audacious suggestion.

9. Nonsense.
Any comparison between the damage inflicted on the civilian infrastructure of Lebanon, & the few
hundred homes, houses & factories damaged in Israel, really is fatuous. There isn't any comparison
between the two, at all. Anybody who thinks there is, just proves that objectivity isn't something they
believe in, or aspire to.

10. I'm sure Lebanon would like to receive the kind of aid Israel receives
These are the most recent U.S. government figures regarding U.S. government foreign aid. This does not include any sort of indirect aid This is for 2003. I tried to find figures for 2005. But all that was available directly from a U.S. government website at this time seemed to be these figures. If one uses figures from other sources they might be correct. But they might very well be biased one way or another depending on the politics of that website.
