Haniyeh unscathed after militants open fire on his convoy in Gaza

Fatah-affiliated gunmen opened fire at the convoy of Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh of Hamas, destroying one vehicle in a burst of flames and raising tensions between the rival parties. There were no injuries in the shooting.

Hamas officials said the attack was not an attempt to assassinate the prime minister.

"The prime minister's condition is good, and he is out of the area of fire," said a an official in Haniyeh's office, adding the prime minister's car itself was not attacked.

Hamas officials said some of the gunmen were relatives of a person killed earlier in the month in a street battle between Hamas and Fatah.
