Lieberman, Peretz denounce Palestinian threats to kill Shalit
If anything happens to abducted Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, "we will have to add Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh and Palestinian Interior Minister Said Siyam to the list of martyrs," new minister Avigdor Lieberman said at yesterday's cabinet meeting.

Lieberman was responding to Palestinian threats that the ongoing Israel Defense Forces operation in Beit Hanun was liable to lead to Shalit's death.

Defense Minister Amir Peretz said the operation in Beit Hanun was being carried out for purely operational reasons, in order to fight terror, "and we will not accept any linkage between Shalit and this issue."

Meanwhile, Shalit's father, Noam, said yesterday that he has decided to maintain media silence over the next few days, as "chatter at this time will not advance the efforts" to arrange a prisoner exchange for his son, "especially in light of the great tension and the ongoing Israeli military operation in the Gaza Strip, and I do not want to respond to every statement or headline."

1. So a member of the Israeli government is now making open death threats?

. . as time goes by.

In case you did not notice Israeli citizens are being actively targeted for death every day that missiles are fired into Israel from Gaza. Are those missiles anything like a death threat in your mind? And of course the kidnapped soldier is a pawn completely at the mercy of his captors. I guess it enrages you that Israel doesn't withdraw and beg for mercy from the PA.

When dealing with cowards and bullies the best approach IMO is to not bother with their toadies and sycophants - threaten the leaders directly. That always gets their attention. If Shalit is killed I hope he carries out his threat. It would serve potent notice to the next crop of cowards in the PA leadership.

3. Israel just killed 53 Palestinians and are no closer to getting their 1
soldier back.

And if you read my post correctly, I was pointing out that the death threat came from a MEMBER OF GOVERNMENT.

4. Yes, it would be more believable that way.

As to being no closer. You have absolutely no way of knowing that. You are only stating what you obviously hope to be true.

Israel can only do what it can to protect all its citizens - the citizens in their bomb shelters in S. Israel and Corporal Shalit.

6. So answer the still unanswered question.
In what way is Israel supposed to react to rockets landing on her towns, tunnels dug under her borders, and suicide bombers crossing her checkpoints?

Be specific.
