Some 250,000 Palestinians have been closed off from the rest of the West Bank by the separation fence, according to a report released by "Bimkom - Planners for Planning Rights" human rights organization.

The report said there were 21 such enclaves and that 8,000 Palestinians lived in "seam enclaves" stuck between the Green Line and the separation fence. Human rights organization claim new separation fence path in Alfei Menashe area that was changed by High Court ruling still harms Palestinians, call it 'immoral transfer'

According to the report, there are 21 enclaves in the Palestinian Territories, home to some 250,000 Palestinians. 8,000 of them live in "seam enclaves" stuck between the Green Line and the separation fence.

"This population is living behind fences, under a regime of permits and bans, in an area cut off from the rest of the West Bank's residents, including friends and first-degree relatives," the report said.

1. No wonder Carter, Tutu, and others compared it to Apartheid.

3. Between two walls
West Bank security fence very different than Great Wall of China

http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3355963,00.html

<snip>

"The Great Wall of China could well be included in the realm of contemporary, conceptual, environmental sculpture.

It was only completed 1,500 years after building commenced in the second century before Christ. It was built to serve as a barrier and to prevent ancient tribes on horseback from penetrating China and harming its citizens. It wasn't built with the aim of making it difficult for farmers to work their land, to expropriate land or to make it difficult for children to reach their schools.

After design and construction rules were set, after measurements for its width and height were concluded, and after the Wall's location on the peaks of a mountain range were determined, the Wall began to ascend and descend the mountain slopes, while topography determined its form, its integration into the landscape, its twists and turns and ultimately its final shape."

<snip>

"A comparison between the Wall we are currently building cannot be avoided. Clearly, the concept of our wall is different and the principles guiding its construction are difficult to explain.

Therefore, it is hardly surprising that the Supreme Court often rejects the arguments, asks for amendments and even rules in favor of dismantling parts of it. It is perceived by world opinion as inhumane, as not serving a security purpose, and as justification for expropriating Palestinian land and abusing the occupants."

4. A rather imperfect but i think apt analogy.
Some folks in my neighborhood seem to have a liking for fences, even more than most. Most people have fences in their backyards, but not in their front yard. These people have a nice tall one in their front yard, their neighbor is adjacent. There is a tree that lies right on the property line. So what did they do? They built around it, of course. But rather than taking extra property from their neighbor and taking the entire tree into their side, they built the fence further into their property, thereby giving their neighbors the tree. It's only fair.

I am sure at points it could not be built right on the green line. but it seems strange that at no point does the Wall go into the Israeli side of the green line, at least by more than several meters. but it goes into the Palestinian side of the line sometimes by kilometers.

The Israeli government has already said they built this annexation wall for the purpose of creating facts on the ground. It seems like this is accepted fact now.
