According to Palestinian sources, Prime Minister Ismail Haniya, nominally the Hamas leader in Gaza and the West Bank, has been sidestepped by more militant elements within the organisation who have ignored his repeated calls for a ceasefire.
Mr Haniya's political adviser, Ahmed Yusef, said yesterday that the Prime Minister was exploring the idea of inviting an Arab peacekeeping force to separate Hamas and Fatah forces.

The Israeli airstrikes did little to reduce the number of rockets fired from the Strip yesterday. Some 40 rockets hit Sderot and other locations, including a regional high school where two people were wounded.
