High Court finalizes approval of Jerusalem Gay Pride parade
<snip>

"Israel's Supreme Court cleared the way for a Gay Pride march in Jerusalem on Thursday, dismissing an appeal against the march by right-wing groups, the courts administration said in a statement.

The decision was published late Wednesday. The parade is set for a short route past the historic King David hotel to a nearby park, where a gathering is to be held.

Every year, the parade sparks a heated reaction from religious Jews, Christians and Muslims."

1. Hundreds demonstrate in Israel against Jerusalem Gay parade
Jerusalem - Hundreds of ultra-Orthodox Israelis demonstrated in Jerusalem late Wednesday, burning garbage containers and throwing stones at police in protest against the annual Gay Parade planned in the city the next day, Israel Radio reported.

Hundreds more held similar protests in the ultra-Orthodox Tel Aviv suburb of Bnei Brak.

Police arrested at least two of the protesters in Jerusalem and another two in Bnei Barak, the radio said.

The protests escalated after Israel's supreme court rejected a petition seeking to stop the march, due to be held Thursday in Jerusalem.

2. I am glad that the court stood firm!
This is something that unites the Religious Right of all religions against common-sense. I am glad that common-sense prevailed, at least in terms of the law.

3. I find it amusing to see support for ignoring the Heckler's Veto on this issue
and yet so many were critical of the UK giving Rushdie honors as being unnecessarily inflamatory...

4. So much for fools...
...who claim that Israel is ruled by fundamentalist Orthodox Jews.

Compare this outcome with what happens to gays in the PA.
