UN's Ban faults rights council over Israel
UN secretary-general expresses disappointment at human rights watchdog's decision to single out Israel. US diplomat accuses council of 'pathological obsession with Israel'

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon joined Western nations on Wednesday in criticizing the world body's own Human Rights Council for picking on Israel as part of an agreement on its working rules.

The European Union, Canada and the United States had already attacked the singling-out of Israel's role in the Palestinian territories for continued special investigation, under the deal reached in Geneva on Monday.

A UN statement said, "The Secretary-General is disappointed at the council's decision to single out only one specific regional item given the range and scope of allegations of human rights violations throughout the world."

1. I agree.
The "rights" body should be dismantled and not resurrected.

2. you know that this council must really...
be quite biased when a UN official (who is not American) chastises its members in defense of Israel. The last incarnation of this flawed agency was so prejudiced it eventually drove even Kofi Annan, (who is not exactly considered to be a big fan of Israel), to condemn it. But by the time that actually happened, wasn't Libya actually running the thing?

3. It gives republicans all the ammo they want
to say the UN is worthless.

When they act like this, it's hard to disagree.
