Yesha rabbinical council chief: Don't rent houses to Arabs
The chairman of the Yesha rabbinical council and chief rabbi of Kiryat Arba, Rabbi Dov Lior, on Wednesday issued a halakhic ruling stating that it is forbidden by Jewish law to employ Arabs or rent homes to them.

In an interview published by "Eretz Israel Shelanu" (Our Land of Israel), to be distributed this Saturday in various synagogues, Lior said that "since this is a matter of endangering souls, it is clear that it is completely forbidden to employ them and rent houses to them in Israel. Their employment is forbidden not only at yeshivas, but at factories, hotels and everywhere."

Recently, several rabbis led by Rabbi Lior have issued a precedent setting halakhic ruling that Israel must shoot civilian populations in areas from whence attacks on Jewish communities originate.

Attorney Einat Horvitz from the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism said in response to the interview that "we view with great concern the wave of calls against Arabs since the terrible terror attack. This is an ever growing phenomenon of racist incitement that distorts Judaism and is also illegal. We call upon the attorney general to shake off his apathy and take action to enforce the laws that prohibit these calls."

5. It is certainly a capital offense in Gaza..
I don't know whether the DP is automatically applied; but you *could* be executed for it.

6. Yes.
Not only in the Palestinian territories. Also in Jordan - which has a peace treaty with Israel. (some peace, huh?)

7. I keep hearing people repeating this line over and over,
but no one ever supplies any substantiation for it. If you have some, I'd be interested in seeing it.

The Israeli police said today that they were holding a Palestinian man and woman on suspicion of involvement in the killing of an Arab real estate dealer accused of selling land to Jews.

An Israeli court here ordered them detained for questioning in the killing of the dealer, Farid Bashiti, 70, an East Jerusalem resident, whose bludgeoned and bound body was found last Friday in the Palestinian-ruled West Bank town of Ramallah.

The killing followed an announcement by the Palestinian Authority on May 5 that it would impose the death sentence on Palestinians convicted of selling land to Jews. <snip>

16 Palestinians Marked for Death for Selling Land, Israelis Say

Israeli security forces have information that 16 Palestinian dealers involved in selling land to Jews have been marked for death, including three land dealers already killed during the last month, an Israeli newspaper reported today.

The report in the daily Haaretz was published the day after the Jerusalem police chief charged that a senior Palestinian security official -- later identified by Israeli television as Col. Tawfik Tarawi, chief of Palestinian General Security Service in the West Bank -- was directly involved in two of the recent slayings.

The Palestinian Authority has denied responsibility for the killings, which have all taken place since Freih Abu Middein, its justice minister, declared on May 5 that Arabs convicted of selling land to Jews would be sentenced to death.

Another one in depth:

I have seen no evidence this has ever been rescinded.

A Google query for "Palestinian death penalty sell land to Jews" yields 267,000 hits.

12. Do you excuse Palestinians being murdered for renting to Jews?
We are looking at moral equivalencies here, aren't we?

13. Palestinians haven't been murdered for renting to Jews....
If you want to talk about equivalency, which I doubt, the parallel of banning Palestinians from selling homes to Israeli settlers would be the calls to not hire or sell homes to Israeli-Arabs. And from the other thread I was just in, the Rabbi making that call was described as respectable and I was told there's nothing of a racist nature about it at all...

15. Fine. I'll answer your question
I don't think there is any excuse for the Rabbi's statements (although I understand them, I don't excuse them).

Now, please reciprocate and answer MY question.

16. Thank you, I am glad to know you don't excuse it
I spent some time today browsing some right-wing boards, and guess what... they definitely excuse it alright. They cheer it on like it's the greatest idea anyone ever thought of.

To answer your question: of course I don't excuse that either.
