Edited on Thu Mar-20-08 07:09 AM by subsuelo
GAZA, March 20 (Xinhua) -- A Palestinian farmer was shot dead on Thursday morning by Israeli troops' gunfire east of the city of Khan Younis in southern Gaza Strip, medics and witnesses said.

Mo'aweya Hassanein, chief of emergency and ambulance services in the Palestinian ministry of health, told reporters that Israeli soldiers shot dead 65-year-old Hassan Abu A'bed in southern Gaza trip.

Witnesses said Israeli soldiers stationed near the borders between southern Gaza Strip and Israel opened fire at the farmer when he approached his farm which is close to the border area.

1. A 60 year old farmer riding a donkey cart.
We clear yet on the whole thing about indiscriminate firing on civilians by Israeli forces?

Or will some still refuse to see the truth?

2. what exactly is the truth?
Edited on Thu Mar-20-08 07:35 AM by pelsar
your link states between hamas and israeli territory.....that translates in to "no mans land"...border area when no one goes..except for those who have plans on "hopping the border?.

and just for the record:
bombs have been found on donkeys before
pregnant women have been suicide bombers as have Palestinian grandmothers.....

_____

of course he may have been a farmer just out to farm his land....or he may not have been...please tell me how you know so well so that can pass on the info to the IDF......

and any country that does prefer to protect its citizens usually puts up signs (at least israel does) that warns it citizens of the danger in the area

5. of course it does . . . . . .
the IDF never kills anyone but militants and terrorists. Everybody knows that.

And if you don't believe that, well, the IDF must have been acting defensively, since it never acts offensively.

And if you don't believe that, then just remember, there's no such thing as a Palestinian.

and on, and on, and on . . . . there's an excuse and justification for each and every action of the IDF.

6. Interesting how this story just died
Edited on Fri Mar-21-08 04:29 AM by subsuelo
Every source I read reported that the IDF was "looking into it". The only source reporting that IDF denied involvement was the Ynet story that henank posted.

Now wouldn't you think there would be some type of buzz over this killing? 60 year old man riding a donkey cart shot and killed. Yet, the story just suddenly fades away after the few initial reports.

Not only did it fade away, but in the sources I looked at, roughly half of them had this incident buried under the bigger headline about the 2 Hamas activists being killed by their own accident. Here is a typical example -- you can see how the incident is buried in the main story. One paragraph given, all of 3 total sentences. And the last sentence, is of course, the justification for the killing.

And so that's it, it seems. Now just suppose this were an Israeli shot dead... we'd be hearing about the vicious terror attack and a ton of analysis calling for another ground invasion of Gaza. We would hear all the insinuations that all Palestinians are cold killers and murderes, and of course the justifications for the mass collective punishment currently inflicted by the Israeli side.

But instead, we don't hear much of anything. Since the man was a Palestinian, we get 1 paragraph buried in other, more 'important' headlines. Nothing to see here, folks! Everybody move on please.

Just another dead Palestinian.

8. It sounds like IDF gunfire to me
I think it's reasonable to wonder if Ynet stretched the truth a bit, since they are the only ones reporting that IDF denied involvement. Every other source, from Haaretz to the BBC reports that Palestinian medical officials say it was IDF gunfire, and that the IDF was looking into it. And that's where the story abruptly dies out. Maybe it just needs more time.
