Al-Qaida No. 2 slams Hamas for considering peace with Israel
Edited on Tue Apr-22-08 07:49 AM by bemildred
You just can't please anybody some times.

Osama bin Laden's chief deputy Ayman al-Zawahri expressed scathing criticism Tuesday against Hamas' apparent readiness to agree to a peace agreement with Israel, pending a referendum, saying it was a violation of Islamic law.

"As for peace agreements with Israel, they spoke of putting it to a referendum despite considering it a breach of the Sharia (Islamic law)," Zawahri said in a lengthy audiotape posted on an Islamic web site. The tape could not be immediately confirmed as authentic, but the voice sounded like past audiotapes from the terror leader.

"How can they put a matter that violates Sharia to a referendum?" he added in the message, the second in a two-part series to answer about 100 questions put to him via online militant forums. In the message, Zawahri also warned that Al-Qaida still has plans to target Western countries involved in the Iraq war.
Asked by one of his followers if the terror group still had plans to attack Western countries that participated in the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq and subsequent war, al-Zawahri said "my answer is: Yes! We think that any country joined aggression on Muslims must be deterred."

Asked if there are any women in al-Qaida, the terror leader answered simply "no."

1. This fellow is getting mouthy recently.
Hope that doesn't mean anything.

3. And in other news, U.S. explicitly warned Carter not to meet with Hamas
topic

The right-wing reactionaries sure do come out in force when prospects for peace get raised ...

al-Zawahir has nothing to worry about.

5. Not surprising; they don't want even the slightest whiff of peace in the region
If Hamas ever does make peace with Israel, they'll be as vulnerable to terror attacks from the hard-core as anyone - probably more so, as they'd be seen as 'traitors'.

We've been hearing quite a bit from Al-Zawahri lately. I wonder if this means Bin Laden *is* dead.
