Gaza – Ma'an – Israeli authorities intensified the crippling siege they impose on the Gaza Strip by completely preventing mail deliveries in and out of the Strip for an entire week, and then reducing the weight limit on mail packages from 8 to 4 kilograms, Mahmoud Mushtaha, director of the Wasil delivery company, said on Sunday.
"Since Hamas took control in the Gaza Strip, Israel began to restrict mail deliveries to and from the Strip after closing the Karni crossing. The restrictions peaked when the Israelis prevented all deliveries except for paper documents and CDs," Mushtaha explained.
He added that after the last explosion at the Erez crossing in Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza, Israel completely banned mail deliveries to and from the Strip for one week. Israeli authorities subsequently allowed delivery of paper documents, stipulating that mail packages must weigh less than 4 kilograms.
Israel had completely closed the Erez crossing after a joint operation conducted by Fatah's Al-Aqsa Brigades and the Al-Quds Brigades, the military wing affiliated with Islamic Jihad. The two groups detonated a truck loaded with 4.5 tons of explosives at the Erez crossing.
