UN to approve resolution banning construction in W. Bank settlements
<snip>

"The United Nations Security Council is expected to approve a resolution next week banning new construction in West Bank settlements. The resolution appears to have the support of the necessary majority, despite strong U.S. opposition.

However, the U.S. is not expected to veto the resolution, initiated by the Arab League and especially Saudi Arabia, should it be approved.

The initiative gained ground last week after UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon condemned Housing Minister, Ze'ev Boim's decision to make public a settlement construction tender.

"This new tender for 300 new homes in eastern Jerusalem, so soon after the Annapolis Middle East peace conference, I think is not helpful," Ban said in December, noting that the United Nations had a consistent position on the illegality of such settlements."

1. I agree with this resolution, and hope Israel abides by it...

and hope that the UN will also pass some resolutions about the nasty stuff in various other parts of the world; e.g. Mugabe's horrific crushing of his opponents in Zimbabwe, and the oppressions in Burma/ Myanmar. Sometimes one gets the impression that the UN are unaware of any other country in the world besides Israel(!) - though I do get the impression that Ban is trying to make things a bit more even-handed.

2. The UN is a joke
With all the resolutions passed against Israel, you'd think there wasn't a mass genocide and expulsion of people going on in the Sudan, or massive human rights abuses going on in Somalia, Uganda, Zimbabwe,Berundi, Burma/Myanmar and elsewhere in sub Saharan Africa,; not to mention the abuses, particularly against women, in the middle east, like Saudi Arabia, Syria, Iran, Egypt, Gaza.

Of all the horrific genocides, expulsions, honor killings, female genital mutilation, stonings, floggings, etc, Israel is worse than all of these.

The UN's agenda is crystal clear.
