Gaza Blast, Israeli Attacks on Militants Kill 12 Palestinians

Palestinian officials say an explosion in the Gaza Strip killed seven people Thursday, while Israeli forces also killed five militants in the territory.

The blast demolished a two-story house belonging to a Hamas commander, Ahmed Hamouda in the town of Beit Lahiya in northern Gaza. The dead include at least two Hamas militants and a baby. The explosion also injured more than 20 other people.

Hamas blamed the Israeli military for the blast and fired about 50 rockets and mortars into southern Israel, wounding an Israeli woman. Israel denied involvement and said the blast may have been caused by militants mishandling explosives.

The blast was not attributed to the Israeli military, except by Hamas. This is not the first time a bomb-maker blew himself and others up. Sorry if this interferes with your "it is Israel's fault" meme.

Hamas, which initially accused Israel of causing the explosion in the home of a bombmaker affiliated with the group, later toned down its accusations after Israel firmly denied any involvement in the incident. Israeli sources said the incident was probably caused by Palestinians preparing explosives. (source)

The armed wing of Hamas has admitted that a massive explosion in the Gaza Strip on Thursday was caused by militants preparing an armed operation.
