Unarmed Palestinian killed on Gaza border
Israeli troops have killed an unarmed Palestinian who crossed into Israel from the Gaza Strip, the military says.

An army spokesman said soldiers saw the man near the Kissufim crossing, so they fired warning shots. When he did not stop, they opened fire and killed him.

It is the first death along the border since a 19 June ceasefire meant to calm violence and ease the Israeli blockade.

1. Just suppose an unarmed Israeli was killed on the border
How much crying and complaining that the truce is broken by Palestinians. How there must be a swift response to terrorism. How many 'news' stories would scream a headline that evil terrorists will stop at nothing to kill as many Israelis as possible.

Yet, we have here an unarmed Palestinian shot and killed on the border. No crying and complaining in your mainstream news. No politicians calling for swift responses (other than Al Aqsa). No stories screaming evil terrorism. It's all just kind of ignored and passed over like nothing happened.

2. I wonder why
he did not heed the warning shots?

They did fire warning shots didn't they?

4. Regrettable, definitely
Unfortunately, Palestinians who cross into Israel often are trying to blow up people, or their own crossings, or fuel or aid, or pretending to be sick and then blowing themselves up to get to the hospital.

It is sad that an unarmed Palestinian is perceived as dangerous. Of course, it might have been that he had or looked to have a weapon. We don't know that.

But a Palestinian crossing into Israel is very often a dangerous militant.

Such are the realities, sad though they may be.

6. And they keep on getting lamer and lamer....
There is nothing done to Palestinians, be it abuse or killings, that the likes of Veggie won't attempt to justify. Understandable given the nasty generalisations of the Palestinian people that constantly pepper its posts...

7. Considering there were warning shots
It sounds like suicide by Israeli solider.

9. Considering most gun shots can
be heard from up to a mile away, unless he was deaf (and I've seen nothing to indicate that) - my opinion is that he heard them. You want to think different, knock yourself out (as always). And goodness, what on earth could make me think that some of these people want to be martyrs? I mean, where on earth would I have gotten that idea?

13. Yeah, I get the clever spin on the murder of an unarmed Palestinian.

Har, har - suicide by Israeli soldier! That's a good one! Really clever spin - I get that.

But I'm more interested in the special views you have about "these people".

You comment that "these people want to be martyrs" so I was wondering if you could expand on your interesting knowledge of "these people" since you seem to have a special insight to share.

So, what else can you tell us about "these people"?

15. There is absolutely nothing funny about
any of this. If you haven't seen a willingness by SOME (how many times to I have to capitalize that??) people to become martyrs, there truly is no hope for you and I to have a conversation about this. Whether they feel they have no option as a result poverty, desperation, 72 virgins in paradise is a whole other story. Is that the case here? I guess we'll never know.

16. oh, ok, so some of "these people" are hoping to get 72 virgins
And that explains why one of 'them' committed suicide by Israeli soldier gunfire.

Thanks for sharing your really interesting views. I now have a much broader understanding of "these people" thanks to your fascinating input.

17. I gave an opinion
You don't like it - tough shit. I'm not here to educate anybody - especially those whose self-righteousness get their knickers in a knot when somebody doesn't agree with their OPINION. And you were the one who lumped them all together - not me.

14. You weren't there, you don't know if you have the whole story, but thanks...
And goodness, what on earth could make me think that some of these people want to be martyrs?
Yeah, coz the killing of an unarmed civilian in a violation of the ceasefire just brings the 'what on earth could make me think that SOME OF THESE PEOPLE want to be martyrs?' At least it does in the same folk who never ever ever see a problem when any Palestinian is killed, and always pretend they KNOW exactly what happened and can always blame the Palestinian civilian...
