Peres lauds Saudi King peace plan
Israeli President Shimon Peres has praised the king of Saudi Arabia for his Middle East peace initiative.

At an interfaith meeting at the United Nations, Mr Peres told King Abdullah he hoped his would be the "prevailing voice of the whole region".

The Saudi plan, proposed in 2002, calls for Israel to withdraw from occupied land in exchange for Arab recognition.

King Abdullah organised the two-day conference in New York to promote a dialogue on religion and culture.

1. It's not going to happen.
The Arabs consider Jerusalem "occupied land" and the Israelis are never going to give it up or divide it.

Jerusalem was the stumbling block that undid Oslo, and scuttled Ehud Barak's peace plan.

2. There has got to be a compromise
Neither side is going to get everything that they want.

At some point, they need to realize that peace is worth whatever sacrifices are required on both sides in some kind of compromise agreement.

3. This city has been disputed since before Christ was born.
It's not going to be compromised on any time soon.

5. The past does not equal the future
I think it's at least worth trying to find a compromise solution.
