IDF soldiers get cash reward for refusing to evict settlers
<snip>

"Deputy State Prosecutor Shai Nitzan has instructed police to launch an investigation regarding a ceremony that was held to praise soldiers who refused an order to evict settlers from the Hebron market. During the ceremony these soldiers received payment as reward for their refusal.

The order was given following a police investigation that raised suspicion that soldiers were incited to refuse commands, an act which under Israeli law is a crime in itself.

Nitzan also ordered an investigation into an ad published on the Internet by a group called the Headquarters to Save the People and the Land of Israel, which is suspected to be the organization responsible for orchestrating the ceremony for the soldiers.

The ad states that any soldier that resists orders to evict the residents of the Hebron house will receive monetary reward of several thousand NIS.

"We wish to remind the security forces of that wonderful event where we presented parents of jailed soldiers with the sum of 1,000 NIS for every night spent in jail for refusing to evict Jews," says the recently posted ad."

1. I hope that these nuts get into serious trouble...
The extremist settlers think they're outside/above the law. They should be shown that they're not. Perhaps if the Israeli government had dealt with them earlier, they might be having less trouble with them now.

3. Headquarters to Save the People and the Land of Israel connected to Temple Institute
The Temple Institute (in Hebrew, Machon HaMikdash), founded in 1987, is a non-profit educational and religious organization located in the Jewish quarter of Jerusalem's Old City. The Institute is dedicated to every aspect of the Biblical commandment to build the Holy Temple of G-d on Mount Moriah in Jerusalem. Our short-term goal is to rekindle the flame of the Holy Temple in the hearts of mankind through education. Our long-term goal is to do all in our limited power to bring about the building of the Holy Temple in our time. Thus, the Institute's efforts include raising public awareness about the Holy Temple, and the central role that it occupies in the spiritual life of mankind. The many areas of activities conducted by the Institute combine research, seminars, publications, and conferences, as well as the production of educational materials.

There is a lot of American money behind this outfit and the groups they sponsor, such as the Save the People and the Land of Israel. Much of this money comes from Christian evangelical groups in the US. Here is what one of its mouthpieces had to say:

Rabbi Richman reflects on his motivation in establishing the Temple Institute's International Department:

"The Torah testifies that the Holy Temple in Jerusalem was the spiritual center for all mankind. All of Israel's prophets foretell that in the future, the Holy Temple will once again stand on Mount Moriah, and at that time all nations will worship there together.

5. Hebron settlers ask public for concrete info on IDF eviction plans
<snip>

"Supporters of settlers who refuse to vacate a disputed house in the West Bank city of Hebron are calling on the public to disclose "any information" possible regarding concrete Israel Defense Forces' plans to evacuate the premises.

"In light of media reports regarding the intentions of the defense minister to evacuate the house under strictly secret methods, we have decided to call out to lovers of the Land of Israel for their help and alertness in gathering information on plans for the evacuation, which could take place any day now - heaven forbid," reads the public notice.

The settler campaign has urged the public to "pass along any information on concentration of forces, mobilization, training and logistic preparations, such as transportation, food and medical emergency alert... Pay attention to any suspicious movement on the roads. Ask your sons and neighbors who are in the army to be alert."

6. This sort of thing is tearing at the very fabric of the Israeli state.
I think this is a very grave situation for Israel, and that few people even grasp it.
