Dutch protesters threw shoes at a Israeli reservist soldier during a speech in Amsterdam.
February 24, 2009

JERUSALEM (JTA) -- Dutch protesters threw shoes at a Israeli reservist soldier during a speech in Amsterdam.

Ron Edelheit was speaking at a Women's International Zionist Organization event Sunday at an Amsterdam hotel while on a visit to his mother. The event had changed locations due to threats. Some 50 demonstrators protested outside the venue.

Edelheit, who holds dual Israeli and Dutch citizenship, had just begun speaking when three youths stood up and threw four shoes at him. Two hit him on the legs. The reservist filed charges against the three youths.

"Today it's a shoe, tomorrow a knife," Edelheit told the Jerusalem Post.

Edelheit was scheduled to speak next in Belgium.

2. Jesus. Stay classy, now, guys.
It's fine to protest, but the minute you start tossing items at the speaker, you're over the line.

I'll bet the protesters didn't even inconvenience themselves by throwing their OWN shoes, either.

That Bush Shoe Toss reporter is still in legal limbo. I'm wondering if he could go back in time, if he would have done it. Jail has got to be getting a bit old.

6. Waving shoes as in insult has been here a long time...I've seen it on campuses for years
In the past it has really upset some of the people being waved at.

5. "Today it's a shoe, tomorrow a knife," Edelheit told the Jerusalem Post.
What a cry baby. This guy is in the military?

What if the shoe thrower were to say, "today a speech, tomorrow he will drop bombs". The logic is just as dumb.
