Netanyahu gives up on alliance with Livni
JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel's right-wing Prime Minister-designate Benjamin Netanyahu has abandoned efforts to woo centrist Tzipi Livni into forming a broad coalition government, a spokeswoman said on Saturday.

The decision, made after a second round of negotiations on Friday ended in disagreement, increased the likelihood that Netanyahu's Likud party would turn to rightist factions opposed to territorial withdrawals in peace talks with the Palestinians. . . .

"The courtship is over. We are not scheduling any more talks with Kadima," said Dina Libster, a Netanyahu spokeswoman, referring to Livni's and Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's party.

Good. It's time the bark was stripped off Israel's government so that the world, especially the American voters, can see the foolishness of blindly supporting Israel while insisting that the dead parrot 'peace' process be restarted.

1. I guess I don't understand parliamentary politics, but didn't Livni (the moderate) win
the election? Why is Netanyahu (the fascist) forming the government? I recall that Livni's win was slim, but still, doesn't that make Livni the one to join with or reject Netanyahu, not the other way around?

2. Kadima won 1 more seat, but Netanyahu's allies won
a lot more seats than Kadima did.

To put it another way: If you divided the Knesset into people either as rightwing as Likud or even more rightwing, they're a majority, while people as 'leftwing' (I know, Kadima is rightwing) as Kadima or more leftwing are a minority.

Let's repeat that: More than half of Israel is significantly to the party founded by Ariel Sharon.

3. It's like Bush in 2000.
Just because you win the most votes, that doesn't mean you win the job.
