100,000 call for peace at Rabin memorial rally
A rally in memory of Yitzhak Rabin eight years after his murder turned into the largest leftwing demonstration since Ariel Sharon came to power as more than 100,000 people at the weekend gathered under banners denouncing occupation and demanding peace.
Although the organisers had said that Saturday night's memorial was intended to be non-partisan, many of those who descended on the Tel Aviv square where the former prime minister was assassinated carried banners demanding: "Leave the territories - save the country", and "Sharon go home".

====================================

Comment: Israel has a population of a bit over 6 million.
100,000 people out of 6 million is a damn big march.

There has been NOTHING about this on the CrusadeNets, it even got posted in another forum here, and has been there all day, unnoticed.

How often does that happen?

It's some food for thought next time someone starts up about anti-Israel or anti-Jewish.

It's very important for the Israeli Left to keep grass roots opposition to Sharon and his failed policies of war and repression front and center. There is an alternative to endless strife.

22. The Israeli Left...
Reading posts in this forum, some would have us believe that the Israeli Left believes the Occupied Territories is part of Israel, that removing the settlements is genocide, that building a wall deep into Palestinian territory is good for so many reasons, and that it's acceptable for the Israeli Left to vote for Sharon out of fear. The Israeli Left, because no-one who is left-wing could honestly support those things, faces much more in the way of smears than any of us would ever face. The assasination of Rabin left huge shoes to fill, and until they're filled, I doubt there'll be any genuine contenders for the role of a 'partner in peace'...

According to some people, the Israeli left, peace activists and anyone opposing the occupation, illegal settlements and Israel's RW policy is "misguided" and actually a "terror apologet". I have heard it here on DU, mind you...

Edited on Wed Nov-05-03 11:57 AM by ForestsBeatBushes
The Israeli Left believes no such thing.

You may have misunderstood something I have posted, however.

I posted that IMHO Sharon could have been voted in due to the fear engendered in the majority of the Israeli population due to the terrorism they constantly suffer at the hands of various groups.

An estimated 100,000 people packed Kikar Rabin in Tel Aviv on Saturday night to pay homage to slain prime minister Yitzhak Rabin, gathering at the spot where he was gunned down eight years ago to show support for the peace process he helped launch.

On Friday, vandals - taking advantage of the poor security near Rabin's memorial just behind Kikar Rabin - spray-painted a large ...

15. It may be the first post of mine you have read

I have consistently expressed a view in favor of Israel's existence, which in my opinion is jeopardized by the US policy of using it as a weapons dump in the guise of being "Israel's friend."

I do not believe that either the US policy nor the sharon regime's are compatible with Israel's existence as a nation, or the best interests or security of the Israeli people.

And by the Israeli people, I mean the schoolteachers the low wage earners, the Ethiopians, the Israeli Arabs, the Moroccans, and zog zog zog, not just the Russian mafia, which is unfortunately, the only facee of Israel that most Americans are allowed to see.

38. Marsala is what you could drink WITH your garam masala sweetaters, but

personally I prefer a good burgundy, preferably Clos de Vougeout.

You can also put garam masala in pumpkin pie, spice cake (duh) gingerbread, any dish made with any member of the squash family. You can also put it in banana milkshakes.

I like food from everywhere. Have you ever had a chicken tikka burrito with kimchi and chimol? You can use leftover biryani or yebeg wot if you are out of chicken tikka, or both! if you are very hungry, and you can also use FryBread instead of a tortilla. Or you can have a moo shoo burrito on injera bread, with jalapeno and tomatillo salsa and lime pickle. Kimchi, by the way, is also very good on hot dogs.

34. Sure! here you go

You will need cooked sweet potatoes. If you want to bake them, leave the peel on and bake them for about an hour-hour and a half if they are big. If you want to boil them, peel them, throw in some water and boil them till you can stick a fork in.

Once you have them cooked, mix and mash up with some butter, salt, garam masala, pecans, and raisins. You should add brown sugar, too, but I know this is a sensitive topic. No one can tell you how much of these things to put in. You have to keep tasting it and when the Golden Moment arrives, you will Know.

Mix it all up, and then whip them with an electric mixer until you get a smooth puree, insert spoon in puree, remove spoon, insert spoon in mouth.

64. Bok Choy, Mr. Fatwa
Often refered to on menus as "Chinese Greens", but white vegetable is its literal translation. It looks rather similar to celery, but without the fiberous ribs, and with larger leaves: the stalks are white, the leaves green with white veining. Preparation is generally into lengths of about an inch or so, cooked till just soft. It has a touch of sweetness.

"M" DuctapeFatwa.

Peanut butter is good, but so is cashew and almond!

However, we must stay "M" no matter how the Magistrate protests for "MW"...an abomination, well, I should say it is!

43. Well, this tears it!
Not only is peanut butter delightful, but Miracle Whip is an abomination!

I suggest we change this forum to M/MW (Mayonnaise/Miracle Whip) and be done with it. :hi:
