Educating the children: A children show on Hamas' TV network aired a special episode last week dedicated to female suicide bomber Reem Salah al-Riyashi.

The Palestinian woman blew herself up at the Erez Crossing in 2004, killing four Israelis.

Producers invited al-Riyashi's children to the show, so they can see a live reenactment of their mother's death in the terror attack. The shows host, a bear called Nasour, invited "martyr Riyashi's children" to enter the studio, before they proceeded to watch a video accompanied by music.



The video features a woman building a bomb as her daughter watches. The child then asks: "Mom, what are you carrying in your arms instead of carrying me? Is it a toy or a gift for me?" The mother does not respond and is seen leaving the house, as her daughter sings to her: "Come back soon, mom."

We must accept this depravity as part of "cultural diversity".

Apparently, glorifying suicide bombing is considered an acceptable part of other cultures, and we cannot let our Western sensibilities of human rights and fairness, interfere, since that would be too "imperialistic" and "colonial" of us.

But let's not pretend that Westerners can't also glorify violence.

I've posted before about the violent pro-war verses and tales that were often popular with the English; about the bloodthirsty songs of Irish and Scottish rebels. Of course suicide-bombing was never part of any of these cultures - but, for example, the recruitment of young teenagers into violent and deadly conflict sometimes was. Here are quotes from a quite recent (mid-20th-century) Irish rebel song about a 16-year-old boy killed in a shootout with the Royal Ulster Constabulary:

Anyway, encouraging children to glorify violence is disgusting whoever does it; and a big ugh to Hamas; may they soon be an almost-forgotten part of history.
