Switzerland calls for an end to Israeli settlements
<snip>

"The Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) is deeply concerned about the destruction of Palestinian houses in East Jerusalem near the old town and by the planned evictions. It calls on the Israeli government to end these operations immediately and to put a stop to all forms of settlement of the occupied Palestinian territory. It has passed on this request directly to the Israeli authorities.

The FDFA is monitoring with concern the events in East Jerusalem. It deplores the destruction of homes by the Israeli government and the eviction orders imposed on Palestinian families. It calls on the Israeli government not to proceed with the building of new apartments on Palestinian property in the Sheikh Jarrah district. East Jerusalem is an integral part of the occupied Palestinian territory. Israel is required by international humanitarian law to ensure the protection of the population.

Switzerland considers that the Israeli settlements and the destruction of houses in the occupied Palestinian territory are a violation of international humanitarian law, which forbids an occupying power to destroy goods in occupied territory or to transfer the civilian population. There is no military necessity that could justify the destruction of these houses or the evictions of Palestinian families.

The continuation of colonisation is incompatible with a genuine peace process which seeks a global and lasting solution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict."

7. It's not hypocrisy. It's a very clumsy attempt to divert attention from Israel...
btw, I would have liked an answer to my question about whether you support the settler movement. Yr reaction to a very reasonable criticism of the Israeli govt makes me wonder that you might...

8. I think the settlements are the biggest roadblock to peace.
But as soon as I saw Switzerland,it just reminded me of their refusal to end tax havens.

9. It would have been so easy to be reminded of that, rather than wanting to change the subject...
You want to talk about tax havens? Go do it in GD and I'll trot you off a list of how many there are. It's just pathetic to bring it up here in an attempt to divert attention away from Israel...

11. No need to get so snarky. This is the I/P forum, not the everything else forum...
I dunno. It's not all that hard not to act like a complete moron, so why do some people have such incredible difficulty doing so?

12. Well, this is something SWITZERLAND should shut the hell up about
Given what it's banks got up to during the war, Switzerland is not entitled to speak on this issue.

I hate the settler movement, but there are some countries that need to stay the hell out of this discussion.
