Atlanta Jews ignore risks to stand by Israel
Last winter, Sue Rothstein contemplated returning to her religious homeland after 30 long years, but the impending war in Iraq put a big kink in her travel plans. She decided to postpone her journey.

<snip>

A suicide bomber dressed as an Orthodox Jew had boarded a crowded bus and blown it to bits, killing 16 people. One of them was Genia Berman, the woman Rothstein's cousin Jay had been married to for 25 years.

<snip>

"I cannot ever remember having the reaction I had when I heard," Rothstein said. "It was senseless to me. I can't understand that people -- who are human beings just like we are -- could think that this is the way to solve anything. It was such a waste of a life."

<snip>

"The thousands of North American Jews, including those from the Atlanta area, traveling to Israel and the are demonstrating their unyielding solidarity with Israelis during a time of challenge," Rosenkrantz said.

1. And then there are those of us who think Sharon is a butcher

And that Israel is a terrorist state.

*Sigh*

This one sure resonates though: "It was senseless to me. I can't understand that people -- who are human beings just like we are -- could think that this is the way to solve anything. It was such a waste of a life."

10. I think...
that the poster was saying that the people standing up for israel should move to Israel.

I don't neccesarily agree with them, but that suggestion is ridiculous.

13. My point...
is that regardless of whether one agrees or disagrees (on a general basis) someone who supports a country should not be forced to move to that country.

I can't read the minds of these people, so I don't really know how much I agree or disagree with them.

15. The idea that people should "move" to a place because they sympathize..
With its people and/or government is ridiculous--at best.

I wish I could MOVE OUT of the US, though, sometimes (I would go to Italy, a lovely country, with a stupid government--especially NOW)....

7. So what do you think of suicide bombings?
And please distinguish between the people of Israel and the government of Israel. Don't Americans deserve sympathy for September 11, despite the vile things our government has done around the world?

8. People, people, we all mourn the deaths of the innocent in this nightmare.
The question is how to end the killing and ensure the safety and dignity of everyone in the region.

We can agree on that, I hope....
