JERUSALEM (JTA) -- Meir Kahane's grandson was arrested in connection with the torching of a West Bank mosque.

The teenager, whose name was not released because he is a minor, was arrested by Israeli police on Thursday for an incident on Dec. 11, when vandals raided a mosque in the West Bank village of Yasuf and burned furniture, prayer rugs and holy texts and defaced the mosque's walls. One graffiti read, "Price tag -- greetings from Effi." Effi is a Hebrew name and "price tag" refers to the strategy extremist settlers have adopted to exact a price in attacks on Palestinians in retribution for settlement freezes.

Israeli officials believed the torching was a response to the construction freeze in Jewish West Bank settlements announced last month.

If he did this (and not alone obviously), then he needs to be made an example. What I would love to see is the Palestinians declare independence, and then demand extradition so he can be tried in a Palestinian court.

4. Settler teen arrested over West Bank mosque arson, then freed

Israel Police on Thursday arrested a settler teen suspected of involvement in the torching of a West Bank mosque three weeks ago, but later released him saying they did not have enough evidence.

Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said the youth was released after several hours of questioning. He would not say if the teen was still a suspect. He said the investigation is still in progress.

The teen, whose parents and grandfather were killed in Palestinian terror attacks, was arrested at the Tapuah Junction in the West Bank.

The police should have done a better job of policing and investigating, rather than jumping on the nearest Kahane family member just to get a lot of publicity, without checking his alibi first.

He has been released. I know it's fun to pile on to the grandson of an extremist but in this case it seems he didn't do it. Calm down everyone. Dry your drool and move on.

And it's a bit hard to release someone they've killed in front of family members isn't it.
